New Fair Use Policy on Roaming?

Hi

Can someone please confirm the amount of data allowed while roaming (either with Pre July monthly phone contract or the Roam Further add on).

I thought I read that it had been redacted to 15GB? So, with an add on I’m basically paying £10 for 15GB and it’s not enabling me to use my existing plan data at all?

It’s all getting a bit confusing! .. Also, is there an add on that will add a lot of GB while roaming? My teen will not manage on these GBs for a weeks or a fortnights holiday!

Thanks!

@RJB84 : The FUP of 50GB applies on contract to all countries when you are roaming.

Hello @Loopy65

Thanks for coming to the community.

Are you currently abroad?

If your domestic data allowance is greater than 50GB, a fair usage policy of 50GB whilst roaming in our Europe Zone will apply (i.e. you can use up to 50GB from your allowance while roaming).

From January 2022, you can use your minutes, texts and data allowances in our European roaming zone (see list of destinations) for £2 a day.

If your plan started before 7 July 2021: If you're on a pay monthly plan and your contract started before 7 July 2021, these changes will not affect you.

If you have a plan with Smart Benefits, you can choose Roam Abroad as a Smart Benefit for any month when you’ll be travelling.

If you do not have Smart Benefits our Roam Abroad add-on will include roaming in the EU, which means that using your plan allowance in our European roaming zone will cost the same as it does at home. You can add Roam Abroad as an add-on to your plan at any time for £10 a month and cancel whenever you like.

The OP hasn't said he will be in the EU.

Has the data FUP for the original 5 Roam Further countries changed/is changing to 15GB pm? If you look at the USA Roaming Page with Roam Abroad you will see:

  • a fair use policy of 15GB applies.

Whereas if you look at an EU country like Germany Roaming Page you will see:

You can use all your allowances as you would at home, at no extra cost.

Nowt about any data FUP, be it 15GB or 50GB.

Which is it to be?

Yes .. it’s confusing .. I understand that if I’m in the EU it’s a 50GB FUP but USA is only 15GB?

It is a ridiculously small amount for a fortnight even for me in the US!

I’m in the UK at present but thinking about times when we get to travel the world again!

Hi

unfortunately I didn’t get an answer about roaming that’s outside the EU.

I’ve scoured the site and can’t find a specific answer.
I find it wrong that a company clearly has a fair use policy but seems to take care not to let anyone know the details of it!?

I suppose I’ll have to phone but, to be honest, I’m not convinced that’ll help either!

Hello @Loopy65

Sorry that it's taken a while to get back to you.

We have had confirmation that the fair usage policy is 50GB for roaming in the EU. This also applies to the Roam Further/Roam Abroad add-on.

Chris

@Christopher_G : Then will you be arranging to correct the USA and other 4 Roam Further countries roaming pages saying that the FUP is 15GB?

Hi @XRaySpeX,

Yes, we've asked for the pages to be reviewed and updated.

Thanks

James

Hi,

So just to confirm, when I go abroad to the USA in June, with an 100gb plan and a Roam Further add on with my plan, will the fair use policy be 50gb, and therefore Will i be able to use 50gb? We are going for just under 3 weeks, so need all the data I can get. I note the website page for Roaming in the USA still hasn’t been updated.

thanks,

nathan.

Hi there @Nathan100

That is correct, you can use 50GB of your data allowance.

Full details can be found in our How do I get the Roam Further Pass?, Help page.
