I am confusing myself I think! I have just returned from Turkey and have incurred all sorts of charges totalling circa £48! EE couldn’t tell me what it was made up of because the bill hadn’t yet been released.
The agent told me that there was a £2.30 day charge if a call was received plus call charges. I thought if someone called via What’s App it was free. We had wi fi in our hotel room which we used all the time to avoid charges.
Could some kind person tell me what is going on ( in plain English for my small brain). Agent said the only way to avoid even people calling you was keep the phone off!

As it is not in EU, you cannot use your usual UK allowances there but will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs/countries/turkeyandnortherncyprus.

Usage of apps is handled by your phone, and carried through the mobile network, as data - and charged accordingly.
Voice call charges are incurred when you use your phone's call dialler - including receiving calls outside the EU.
The £2.29/day charge is incurred anyday you use your phone on an EU network and, therefore, access your UK allowances. The way to avoid incurring this charge is to avoid your phone connecting to any foreign mobile network.
