Missed call notification in Messages but no record of the missed call in Recents

Good afternoon!

Today I received a notification (in Messages) of a missed call (from my employer) while I was in the same room with my phone. It didn't ring. (It wasn't on silent or something.) When I had a look at Recents there was no record of the missed call.

I have spoken with Apple Customer Service and there was no issue with my Iphone.  I have Fiber at home so it was not a signal or coverage issue either.  Could this be the Voicemail?

I am so disappointed with EE and I am thinking of leaving when I get a chance. EE Customer Support in no existent and a person can't get far through the AI on topics slightly of the 'opening hours'..

I will appreciate your support because I would like to get all calls from my employer.

Best wishes,

Roumi

Hi @Roumi

Try restarting your device as it maybe a glitch. I think this is an iPhone software issue as this is an old issue.

It could also be the caller dialling off without it connecting.

Thanks

It may help explain how missed call alert & your call log work - what you're describing appears to me, perfectly normal behaviour from a voicemail perspective.

1: Call rings on your phone and you miss it, caller leaves a voicemail. You receive text notification of the "new message received" (assuming they're enabled), the voicemail spool on your phone's screen screen is activated and the "missed call" shows in your phone's call log.

2: Call rings on your phone and you miss it, no voicemail is left. Your phone's call log is the notification.

3: Call doesn't ring on your phone and a voicemail is left. Same as scenario 1, minus the "missed call" listed in your phone's call log.

4: Call doesn't ring on your phone and no voicemail is left. A "missed call" text notification is sent, assuming they are enabled.

Perhaps you could post a screenshot of the notification you received, to enable accurate diagnosis of which of these scenarios, applies. I suspect option 4 does.

As to why your phone didn't ring, that's another separate issue. Being on fibre broadband is completely immaterial - what matters is whether your phone had a mobile network signal at the time, or an active WiFi-calling connection. If you test calling your phone from another phone now, does your phone ring as expected? Have you had problems with any other calls not ringing when at home?

Thank you all for your prompt responses. I am very grateful for your replies.

Fortunately, the issue that I had on Friday was not a "perfectly normal behaviour from a voicemail perspective". Normally I find a record of missed calls in Recents. Or, is it either in Recents or in/by Voicemail and never in both?  Technology changes so quickly one can't keep up.

Last Friday I phoned all available numbers for EE Customer Service and I even contacted a local EE store but every time my calls were redirected to the same virtual assistant who was useless. To my unpleasant surprise I discovered that there wasn't even a chat room which is why I couldn't find a real person to help me solve the problem. Some guidance with resetting the voicemail on my mobile would have been appreciated.

Following the advice of an Apple Advisor, last night I reset the Network Settings on my phone and I am hoping for a better experience this week. If it was a glitch, I pray that it has been cleared. I can't afford to miss more calls from my employer/customers. Fingers crossed!

Once again thank you for your support.

As per my previous post - if the call did not ring on your phone but was (for whatever reason) diverted straight to voicemail, then it absolutely was normal behaviour for voicemail - see scenario 3 or 4 where this behaviour is designed for.

Thus I don't see any evidence in your posts so far, that your voicemail needs any kind of reset. As to why the call didn't ring on your phone - that's a different question but is the one that should be asked, if these symptoms persist.
