This is what it shows at the top of my screen, everything is set correctly in settings (network selection is on automatic) see below:

Are you on pay-monthly or PAYG?

If pay-monthly - did you enable roaming before travelling, by texting ROAMING to 150?

If on PAYG, did you use your phone in the UK before leaving?

If you can't connect to US networks, it suggests international roaming has not been enabled.
