Garbled incoming audio

I have a problem with the audio on incoming calls. The person calling me sounds garbled, like they are under water, blowing bubbles. However, if I call them I can hear them fine. I have a Samsung S10. I would appreciate any help to understand if this is an issue with my service or my phone. Many thanks.

I don't even have a 2G signal inside my house (which I know all too well and have no option but to use WiFi calling to make calls)

There are many locations where 4G coverage exceeds that of 2G by design, and WiFi-calling is a valid method to deal with indoor coverage issues where they exist.

VoWiFi & VoLTE use the same IMS-core, hence the suggestion of trying 2G/3G layers where possible, as another elimination exercise.

Hi @bristolian .

Ok fair enough, perhaps my ignorance of mobile signal technicalities is showing, however my point was that the technical support person was taken aback by the lack of signal both inside and outside my house and she listed what I could not receive, starting at 2G, so I was just following their lead. More to the point I have lived in this house for 13 years and been with EE for probably almost as long. I have never had this issue with garbled calls until last week, and it sounds like every other user on this thread is in a similar position. Surely, this must point to a more widespread issue.

I appreciate the suggestion of trying different layers, but why should I suddenly need to, that is what interests me more. Something has changed and I don't believe it is down to my equipment when others are witnessing the exact same problem for the exact same duration.

I was very impressed with the support I received from EE earlier, both from the level 1 and level 2 operatives. They did all they could, but I was surprised that they closed my case without waiting to see if the new SIM would do the trick. If it doesn't, I shall certainly be back on the phone.

I find it hard to disagree that EE C/S should show more interest in further investigations than appears evident from these posts, I have had some recent experience of this myself.

That said, any methodical diagnostics that end users can do to narrow down possible causes, can only help expedite those investigations.

Update team...

I called EE customer services tonight as a last resort and got through to a really helpful lady who agreed to terminate my contract for free considering these issues so i have now left EE never to return to them!!

PAC code received 🙂

For those of you with iPhones there is an update released tonight 16.1.1 which may be worth a try to see if it helps the problem but i doubt it?

Thanks and good luck to you all with this issue

My contract ends next month and I have now instigated switching across to Sky on a sim only deal. Still got a month to wait so will be interesting to still follow this thread to see how everyone gets on. Is ashame as been an EE customer since day one but can't put up with these issues.

Hi @Viper007

Very well done - and will be interestd to know if you still get the same problem with the new network.  If not, it should prove that it really is EE, as we all suspect. Please do let us know.

Are you able to access this forum once you have left EE ? If not, would be happy to DM you my number somehow (Facebook ?).

Hi @Nick2d

Certainly agree that it's unlikely to be a SIM problem, as @Viper007 has discovered. Would be very useful to know if a new network has the same issue or not.

I'm due a hospital appointment by telephone tomorrow and they will be ringing me, so will wait to see if I can hear them. If not, it will be impossible to call the consultant back at the NHS and I won't know what they need to tell me.

Will report back after the call.

Hi @MarkB731

Hope that solves the issue, which will prove it was EE all along. The only caveat is that all our garbled incoming calls have been from Sky mobiles and Sky "landlines" although not sure what the NHS use.

Calls from Vodafone are clear and EE to EE are clear also.

Hi buddy

It's fine on Giffgaff no issues at all

It's not your phone its them

Thanks @Viper007  - may well follow you to Giffgaff !!
