EE Android PAYG mobile phone stopped receiving SMS messages

13th May 2025: My EE PAYG mobile suddenly stopped receiving SMS messages, so I phoned CS. The mobile can send texts and make/receive calls, but not receive texts. After some troubleshooting, CS said it was a known, technical issue which started on the 10th May 2025 and should be fixed in a couple of days.

Does anyone else have this problem? Surprised there's no reference to it on the Web.

Where exactly is this "theory doing the rounds"? Can you provide a weblink?

The ability of an individual line to receive SMS is not controlled within the website-portal. It's within the core network.

Hey @rickybicky47 😊

This isn't something I've ever heard about, and like @bristolian mentioned it's unlikely to be the case.

Phone numbers are paired to a specific account and SIM, and this can only be one at a time.

When a pay as you go number passes the hibernation process and is terminated, that individual account is closed permanently, and when it's recycled this will be on a totally new account and SIM.

Online accounts are totally separate to this, and it's at an account level rather than a number level that they are paired.

Wow.

Bristolian and Peter_W.

I'm really shocked to see two people on this community forum attacking me over the loss of a mobile SMS service for which I'm not responsible and over which I have no control, one person allegedly from the EE Community Support Team. Please don't "help" me out again, and please don't contact me again. It's like I'm being trolled. This isn't Twitter.

If you want to do anything constructive, please contact EE's level 2 support and push to get the problem resolved asap. But please, I'm just an ordinary customer who ordinarily expects to receive a SMS service as a standard part of a paid contract. Please don't pillory me. Your type of contact is harmful. You never know what mental health problems someone has.

Attacking customers is pretty unseemly. They generally don't like to be jibbed. As I said, don't contact me again on this forum.

I assume it's not working for you still? I just posted a new topic about it, I'm the 6th person to make a topic on SMS being down in the last week.
