As you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure roaming is enabled on your account.

You should be good to go as long as the Roam abroad pass is active and Data Roaming is enabled in Settings -> Mobile Service

thanks! do I need to turn on data roaming on the handset as well.?

Yes, if you want to use data there but it has nowt to do with enabling roaming on your account which permits all use abroad.

This is not entirely accurate. Data roaming is a phone setting that says "can I use mobile data whilst roaming", there is no similar "voice call roaming" or "text message roaming" but they would be the equivalent.

If roaming - which is a network setting - is not active, then data, voice or text roaming will be impossible. You can check for roaming being active by texting ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK.
