Cannot call UK or receive calls from UK when in Turkey

barisari

I turned roaming and everything related on and have no spending cap. Still, cannot receive calls from UK when I am in Turkey. I cannot call UK numbers either. But strangely, I can make international calls. This is so weird. How to fix this?

Looking at the forums, it seems like this is one of the endless EE technical errors. I cannot call them from here. Is there any other solution?

Are you on contract or PAYG? Did you use that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto. Otherwise login to your MyEE account online & go to Menu > Account Settings > Parental and Data Controls > Roaming Abroad and also Call Abroad and Premium Rate. They will show as ticked if roaming and calling abroad is activated. If not ticked, can you activate these settings?

If you can't enable the Roaming Abroad and the Call Abroad & Premium Rate settings of your online MyEE, you will need to call CS. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. via Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

PAYG is auto enabled for roaming as long as you've used it in the UK previously. You won't see any of those settings & don't need to change anything. If outside EU, do you have enough credit for making calls & texts from abroad?

Hi @barisari

If you can make international calls then try adding +44 before the number.

Costs for using your device in Turkey are here;

How will this solve my problem of not receiving calls from UK? Please at least read the question before pasting generic web pages. And of course, I am putting +44.

I appreciate if you can delete your answer because it is just wasting space and everyone's time. These unrelated, generic, and unhelpful replies are so annoying when you are trying to find an answer to a question.

I am on contract. I was using the SIM regularly before going abroad.

I activated it through the app. I am not sure if it was already active when I was in UK or I activated afterwards, but it is definitely active according to the EE app.

I tried reseting the device and selecting the network manually. Did not make a difference. Roaming Abroad is ticked. Call Abroad was not, but this option clearly states that it allows making international calls while in the UK. This is not what I want to achieve. I would like to receive calls from UK while I am abroad.  I activated just in case, but if this is the problem, EE should fix this because it is clearly misleading.

I can see when someone from UK is calling, but I cannot answer the call. It quickly says call failed after one ring.

Thank you for your answerç

Hi @barisari

Thanks for coming here.

Can you send and receive texts to UK mobile numbers?

Have you tried restarting your phone?

Leanne 🙂

@barisari , firstly, the SIM card has to be activated in the UK first, also call abroad and premium calls have to be ticked, otherwise you will not be able to use the SIM card as planned.

If you are unable to allow call abroad and premium calls, then if you have Skype, you could call them:

https://ee.co.uk/contact-ee/account-billing/mobile

As you have written you are on contract, so I would have thought the SIM card is active and it just has to do with call abroad and premium calls, which need to be ticked, hopefully you are able to do so.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

Activating "Call abroad while in the UK" solved my problem, but this option is definitely misnamed and misleading because my problem was being unable to receive calls from the UK while abroad. Thanks @XRaySpeX and everyone who tried to help.
