im getting 5g signal with 4 bars so why is my download speed 2mbps when my upload is 8mbps i'm on unlimited data what should i get speed wise??

Maximum data speeds are largely dictated by the spectrum & capacity that is available on your serving site - it's not directly related to either 4G, 5G or the indicated strength of signal.
Is this a recent problem?

Yes speed normaly 13 to 15 mbps download and 7mbps upload, but last two have dropped to 1.8mbps download and 2 mbps upload hence the question, my internet very slow and tv stream non existant.

download speed today 2mbps upload 1.2 mbps and i have unlimited data plan which at present is not fit for purpose.
3 days now come on EE Step up..

Did you check the status of the network, as @Leanne_T suggested? You can report problems on that status checker too so that our network team can investigate.

yes problem reported after status check done and team are looking into my problem , but that still leaves me a w/end without internet at the level i expect 5 days in total so far of poor or non existant internet, i now believe i should be compensayted for the poor service i'm receiving!!!

This situation has gone on long enough, i beleive we can all get out of our contracts penalty free as the service being provided by EE at present is not fit for purpose, ive been trying to sort this out for 2 months now and still we wait for a service paid for but not received.. not acceptable!!!!

There's no minimum speed guarantees in the T&Cs, which do provide for temporary outages being resolved ASAP.
You would have to discuss your individual circumstances with CS, but also give EE the opportunity to resolve any issues as best possible.
