Update Network Setting & tethering active

DPenney5
Explorer

Just got an update to network settings message.
after accepting - I now see the tethering icon shows it as active. I have checked and it’s not one of my devices.

meanwhile I have turned off wifi/bluetooth connectivity to stop it.

how do I check that network settings are correctly set, that the update was legitimate and stop this tethering behaviour?

There is nothing nefarious about network settings messages in the way you appear to be concerned.

Are you saying that your hotspot function has been switched on? I'm unsure what you mean by "have checked and it's not one of my devices"

You can disable your hotspot through your phone's connection settings - are you using Apple or Android?

Apple.
Yes the hotspot came on indicating a tether device had attached.
I turned off connectivity in all my other devices and it persisted.

So I turned off connectivity on the mobile phone as well.
Restarted
Switched network provider
Restarted
Of course GSM network login failed so. O phone service
Switched back to EE
Restarted
Now have phone and data connectivity.

The tethering has gone away - perhaps the network settings were reloaded when I reconnected to EE, I don’t know how to check that.

Phone is behaving normally again.
However don’t plan on connecting to banking services until I can do a hard reset and restore.

If you can explain how to figure out the network setting file it’s using or force a reload of network settings from the EE service - that would be great.

Best regards
