So, I'm a 10 year (at least) BT Mobile user, back to when they were Cellnet. (As well as a BT Broadband customer).
I've now switched to a 5G compatible handset but don't receive the service as BT don't have any 5G plans now and they're pushing me to swap to EE. It will cost an extra £7 (about) per month if I switch.
If it had been the same cost, then I probably would, but charging more is no bloody incentive whatsoever.
As BT use the EE network, I get a good 4G service.
Just wondered what folk thought ?

I thought BT Mobile offered 5G on sim only?
The reality is though, they are encouraging people away from BT Mobile and onto EE (as part of their plan for EE to eventually be the primary brand for residential / consumer service).
I thought BT offered special deals to encourage people to make the switch. But I think this is one for you to decide if 5G is something you want and it's worth the price they're offering.
Personally I think EE is a better service provider with better offerings (think the roaming bolt ons, visual voicemail etc.) but it comes down to your personal preferences.

Do you use your phone for anything that would benefit from 5G, or for which 4G is insufficient?
If you're happy using the 4G network and get good enough service, then you've answered the question as to whether 5G is worth worrying about.
Over time, it's very likely that BT's mobile service will be wound down and migrations to EE be increasingly encouraged.

I was told ALL BT Mobile customers were being switched to EE but not to worry, same price (was on basic/discounted £5 mth deal with landline & Bband) & they would do all the work. EE sim arrives nxt day, put it in, do the PUK # thing to keep number etc. 2 months later bill from EE "oh, you have to set up a new DDebit with us." So now TWO DD's, price since jacked up to £8.50 & another £1.50 in March. Not to mention no free roaming and Data cut to 250mb. Then find out I could've stayed with BT Mobile. 😡

Good morning @RobinP5.
Welcome to the community.
Our home broadband and mobile will have different billing accounts which will require separate payments. Regarding the current price increase as usage across our networks continue to increase, and with our customers relying on us more than ever for connectivity, it is crucial that continue to invest in our networks, services and latest technology.
What data has been cut, is this your monthly allowance?
Speak soon,
Katie

Originally with BT Mobile I HAD a 1Gb data allowance and free roaming in Europe. After the being hoodwinked into switching to EE (with the "All Our mobile customers are being switched" line), I lost roaming and data was reduced to 250gb. I do however stand corrected, the increase in March is £1.20 not, as I stated, £1.50. Que Sera 😉

Sorry my bad, my last should have read 250Mb monthly data allowance, NOT 250Gb🥴

Hi @RobinP5.
I would recommend speaking with our customer care team who can open a complaint regarding this.
The team will be able to look into this further for you and also provide you available roaming options.
Please call 150 from your EE handset.
Katie 🙂
