Hi to the Gurus out there. Have just received a replacement EE sim card for my mobile broadband router. Our signal out here "in the sticks" is weak so the best speeds with the previous EE sim was around 15-20 mbps upload. Just popped in my new EE sim and the best speed in the past hour has been 4 mbps (worse than the old copper wire speed). Nothing else has changed (same router, same aerial/aerial position). Any ideas on why the speed has cliff-edged like this? Thank you

Hi @SomersetTaz
Have you checked your local network for issues:
https://ee.co.uk/help/service-status/mobile/check-postcode
A replacement sim has no difference.
Thanks

Hi Northerner,
Thanks for your advice. So got in contact with the EE level 1 and 2 techies and they were extremely helpful. The network and the new sim were checked and there were no issues. It seems that the router and/or mobile aerial has a problem. So I've ordered a new EE Smart Hub 2 (online) and then will be having the aerial updated. We will see!

Signal strength is not the major factor in dictating data speeds, the capacity that's available is. Quite often the displayed signal is made up of a combination of multiple underlying carriers.
There's various possibilities as to why your data speeds have varied, but the SIM is highly unlikely to be one. Check the status tool in the first instance.
