Pathetic data speeds with a strong 4G signal... why??

So in a fairly large area around Chelmsford railway station, I have 3-4 bars of 4G signal but almost non existent data... see speed test result from today:

Is this something that EE would look into? When you're on the Full Works plan which isn't cheap it's a bit galling to have this 😞

Is this a recent problem?

The status webtool is absolutely the first place to check - https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile-coverage-checker "check service status"

I only joined EE yesterday so I can't really say if it is recent.. according to that link it should have excellent 4G coverage all over that area! Seems the coverage isn't the issue as you can see I do have a 4G signal... it's just that there is no data speed within it...?

There's a popular misconception around this - equating coverage strength with capacity/spectrum deployment.

One site in the immediate vicinity of the station has 75Mhz of capacity across 1800Mhz & 2600Mhz, another site slightly to the south has 90Mhz of spectrum also including 2100Mhz.

Not sure what that means exactly... does that mean this kind of data speeds are expected for EE...?

It sounds like you've used the "check coverage" link rather than "check status" as was suggested.

"Check coverage" predicts the coverage levels in a given area, "check status" searches for known issues in your chosen locality, with an option to get updates on known faults or report new ones.

Ah okay my mistake. The check status site says everything is fine for that area annoyingly, when it very much is not...

I've tried a few sample postcodes around Chelmsford railway station and some of them do report an issue on the status tool.

I'd suggest using the "Report a problem" link on whatever postcode you're using, for further checks.

Thanks would you be able to give me an example of one of the postcodes with an issue..?

Hi @martin2345uk

Try restarting your device and check again.

Do you not have 5G on your device.

Thanks
