No network

Last nite I broke down in my van 80 miles away from home with my 2 year old in a town I wasn't familiar with couldn't make a call book a hotel or get any cash as I had no internet coverage at all couldn't call AA as phone saying no network so me and my little girl had to say in the van freezing all nite phone was bk on this morning tried to talk to someone at EE but everything is just automated I'm not happy at all

I'm really sorry to hear you had trouble using your phone, I'm sure it was an awful experience and I hope you and your daughter are ok. 

When calling our customer care team, there is an automated system to get you through to the right team. If you select any options, our team can always transfer you to the right people to help. Alternatively, you can see other ways to make a complaint here Make a Complaint | Contact Us | EE.

Whilst I can sympathise with your predicament, no network guarantees 100% coverage of all locations. Both voice calls & mobile data use the same network signal - so a loss of that will affect both services.

Using the "check coverage" option on https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile-coverage-checker , is there predicted service in the location you were in?

If so, perform a "check service status" check - this will show any current known outages in that area. Your description sounds like there was a temporary outage - these things happen on all networks from time-to-time.
