NO NETWORK IN THAME FOR LAST 2+ DAYS

  • I have an EE contract and SIM.  I'm in the Thame, Oxfordshire OX9 area and have  been unable to send or receive calls and texts for the last few days.  When checking coverage online, I get the message that they are aware of a problem in my area.  EE doesn't have a chatline (a proper live one with a person at the other end!) and like many people nowadays, I don't have a landline, nor neighbours with one,  and so I have no way of contacting EE to get further information.  I'm not receiving update texts from them, because I'm not receiving texts!  My phone won't support the WIFI calling, which is suggested online by EE as a temporary alternative.  EE are not considering that people can be left without any way of communicating with them!  I know it's New Years Day but I would have expected that contact by a chatline was available under such circumstances.  Thank goodness I can message and call friends by WhatsApp.  I can see on this Community Discussion Group that EE seems to have frequent problems with their mobile network and as their network and service are both useless, I will certainly opt out of my contract at the end of its term.  I shall move to Tesco Mobile which friends say is excellent!

Hi @Thameresident

No network has a 100% up time and as the network checker states there is a known issue in your area.

Yes this is frustrating but these things happen and subject to the issue it will be addressed asap i am sure.

What mobile device do you have.

Thanks

You could download the Skype app (or potentially on a PC/Laptop or Tablet to see if that would work) and call EE for free using the number in @Northerner's signature if you would like to speak to someone despite your phone not supporting WiFi Calling (which im surprised by as most do).

What kind of device is it that you have?

WhatsApp is just an internet app - if you have an internet connection, the vast majority of recent smartphones support WiFi-calling as mentioned by others. This allows full use of your phone for calls & texts without needing a mobile network connection.

If your phone is older or is a "feature" phone, then it's a feature worth considering on a newer phone.

Tesco Mobile is a budget MVNO who use O2's network - which also has outages from time-to-time. Every mobile network does.

Thank you and I understand that.  A Samsung galaxy S10 which doesn't come up on EE's website as supported for Wifi calling.

Thanks for the info.  I'll try it if not sorted by end of tomorrow.  It's a Samsung Galaxy S10, but it doesn't appear on the EE list as supported and there is no Wifi calling button within settings.

Try checking your phone's call settings for the option for WiFi-calling enablement - Samsung Galaxy's are pretty reliable for having the menu option.

If you mean the normal WhatsApp then yes I have WApp, but I can't imagine EE communicate by WApp.... not for messaging or for calls.   It certainly isn't mentioned on their website.....  Thx anyway for your comments.

Thanks!   Despite entering "Wi-fi Calling" as a search at the top of the main Settings menu, it gives no suitable result...  But doing the same search in the About Phone sub menu  brings up the Call Settings list you shared....  You know your way around a phone far better than I do...   Thx again.  It'll tide me over for an important incoming call tomorrow and hopefully EE will sort the problem out soon....

No need to disable the service. Usage of WiFi-calling is exactly the same as if you were using the mobile network, and it will only kick in when needed.

Once enabled, leave enabled.
