My phone will not work with 4g

My Samsung J5 can only use 3g and has recently been unable to receive text messages. I guess that's due to the 3g switchoff by EE. The notice in the top left corner is "No service". Do I have any options for connecting with 3g or will I need a new phone?

Any non-4G phone has always used firstly 3G, then 2G. With EE's 3G switchoff, those phones will now use 2G permanently.

2G is perfectly usable for calls & text messages, but having a 4G phone will give much improved service.
