It says 5G but no 5G frequency which means it's downloading from 4G and slow

So I have a 5G router, Huawei CPE Pro 2 and couple of days ago I was getting good download speeds using 5G and all of a sudden the speed went down and became slow.

I checked the settings of my router to see if it's getting any 5G frequency but it's not.

The unit has full 5G 5 bars, but no frequency which means it's not getting any 5G data.

I can't upload any pictures to show you because it's not letting me add it to this post.

Are there any issues with 5G currently?huawei cpe pro 2.PNG

I dont Officially know where the 5G Mast are in your Area, but If I was to have good guess I would say, Bluewater, a Golf Course down by the  the A2 near North Kent College and a Golf Course up by Barnes Cray would be a good place to start.

Also Dartford is quiet Hilly so you could also be picking the 5G Masts across Thames in Essex, Purfleet and Thurrock Area.

If I find out you Kent Lads are nicking 5G Signals from Essex, there's going to be trouble. 🙂

Hahaha, bring it on!

So the second unit Huawei CPE Pro 2 arrived today.  I plugged in another EE contract SIM card and bam 5G connected straight away on 3560Mhz frequency/n48.  Now I'm scratching my head, it must be my antennas that's causing the issue of not picking up 5G but it was working solid for 3 weeks.

After hours spending in the loft playing around with the antennas, resetting the units, etc, I decided to swap the SIM as the last try.  And bammmmmm, the modded router has 5G on 3560Mhz/n48 and the unmodded one doesn't.

So the problem was the SIM card/account/line.  SIM A has unlimited data which was working fine for 3 weeks and then stopped.  SIM B has only 20GB of data, on contract (so 5G enabled).  After googling, it looks like EE DOES have a cap of 600GB even in the unlimited data contract which is sh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!t (So SIM A has exceeded that limit).  I have exceeded that, because I've been using it heavily.  Basically my whole house runs on internet, boiler, radiators(yes each individually), spot lights (I have 60 around the house and each connects to the internet), Smart TV, 4K Netflix, YouTube 4K, work laptops, etc etc.  I did see my router exceeding that amount at some point but after rebooting it I lost the data used figure.

Does anyone know if this cap can be removed because to be honest this is rubbish.  I can't get FTTP where I live, I can only get FTTC which gets me around 30 Mbps and that's not good enough.  My only solution is a 5G router, but the cap isn't helping.  Next month, I'll eat that 600GB in less than 2 weeks to be honest.

I would be very surprised if your 5G issue is due to you exceeding the 600gb FUP, its not a Cap its a Fair Use Policy, I have exceeded it a few times now without any issues, in fact I dont know of anyone or heard of anyone having there Unlimited Data Plan restricted, Yet!, but I suppose there's

always a first time.

Also if the FUP was the Issue, Im sure EE Customer Services would have told this is the cause when you phoned them.

In the back of my mind I still believe you could have an Network 5G ENDC Sharing issue or misconfigured Mast in your Area, but as I said before, wanted to get All the other possible's with your Setup out of the way first.

When you were playing about with the different Sims and Routers and getting varying results with 5G Signals, I dont suppose you managed to make a note of what Cell Towers you were logged into at with the different results?

Another thing you can now do is go for a Drive Around in your Area (ie try and Log onto different Masts, Switching Airplane Mode on and Off is good for this) with the two different Sims and see the if the results are simular to your findings at Home.

If, you find that your UL Sim (Sim A) is problematic on 5G over Sim B in another good known 5G area out side of your Home Area, then maybe ring EE CS or Tech Support and ask them to recycle the Sim Settings (or what ever it is they need to do) on your Account, and or maybe suggest they send out a new Sim to you.

Edit: by the way, is your UL Sim a Phone Sim Plan or a Data Sim Plan?

The same tower: 33639

I did that over the weekend.  With Netmonster opened up.  Same issue that I mentioned before.  SIM A doesnt connect to 5G at all, thus 4G speeds.  SIM B connects to 5G and gets full speed.  I will get some screenshots next time.  I parked right outside the 5G mast (which I think it is).  SIM A shows 5G disconnected in NetMonster, even after initiating a download on the SpeedTest app.  Even after downloading few 100Mbs, 5G still doesn't kick in.  Whereas with SIM B, after few seconds running SpeedTest, 5G NR becomes connected and the speed racked up.  (Now I understand when you say you need to initiate a download first then the 5G will kick in).

Spoke to CS/Tech, they can't find any problems with my SIM card or the mast nearby.  So they've reset the settings on SIM A.  No changes.  Still stuck on 4G speeds.  Did a sim swap, still no 5G.  Whereas SIM B quietly over there getting 5G Speeds.

Edit:by the way, is your UL Sim a Phone Sim Plan or a Data Sim Plan?

Normal SIM with minutes and texts.

If you guys still don't believe that my speed is being capped (or limited to 4G speeds), then should prove it.  @EssexBoyEE @Peter_C

Let's put the modded CPE PRO 2 aside for now.  I now have an unmodded CPE PRO 2 and an unmodded CPE PRO 3 purely for testing.  (will return when done).  As you can tell this is affecting me a lot and it's serious. I need the 5G speeds.  I work from home and I use a lot of internet.

As you can tell from the above screenshots, this proves that SIM A is being capped (at 4G speeds) whereas SIM B gets full 5G speeds.

I have ran out of ideas on how to resolve this now.  EE CS can't see anything wrong.  Maybe someone from this forum can 😞

@Ar5had07 , I would suggest you get the SIM card that is only giving you 4G replaced, as it obviously appears to not be a 5G SIM card. How long have you had that one? I had to have my old SIM card replaced in order to get 5G as it would only go up to 4G.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

@Schockwave Just swapped the SIM again today.  3rd sim now in 3 days.  Still no 5G, 5G shows disconnected in NetMonster even after initiating a speed test.

@EssexBoyEE Maybe this can help solidifying my statement that 5G is disabled.  I have exceeded way over 600GB.

Didn't actually say I didn't believe you, more along the lines its unlikely as EE have yet to Restrict Data to anyone on a Unlimited Plans, also said, but there is always a first time.

If you believe you are being Data Speed Restricted (or 5G Restricted) then I would have thought EE would have informed you somehow or picked this up during your Telecons with them. I also would have thought that any restrictions that are or were in place would be lifted once you start your Monthly Refresh Date (when is this by the way), so in this scenario the 5G Signal and Speed should start to work again when your Monthly Allowance is refreshed.

The other thing I did pick up, which seems a bit of an odd ball, is in your latest Pics, its showing as 5G on Band N1 2100mhz and not N78 3800Mhz which is plentiful in your area, again cant help thinking this and that your also using a N78 3500Mhz Only Antenna on the Modded Pro2 Router setup.?
