Update: 21 August 2026
Our engineers are continuing legal negotiations to agree planning permission for the permanent mast. We expect all legal steps to be completed by the beginning of September. Pending a positive outcome, we can start building the equipment needed for the new mast.
For the temporary mast, we are continuing legal negotiations to agree the lease agreement with the site provider. Once we have an outcome from the lease agreement, we can start building the equipment for the temporary mast and confirm an approximate on-air date.
We will keep you updated on this post.
Update 16 July 2026
Over the past few months, our engineers have been in legal negotiations to agree planning permission for the permanent mast. Barring any unforeseen delays, we expect the legal steps to be completed by the beginning of September. Pending a positive outcome, we can start building the equipment needed for the new mast.

Update: 06 July 2026
For the temporary mast, we have experienced a slight delay completing the lease agreement for the temporary mast. Once we have an outcome from the lease agreement, we can start building the equipment for the temporary mast and confirm an approximate on-air date.

Update: 11 June 2026
Over the past few weeks, our engineers have been continuing negotiations with the site provider to agree the lease agreement for the temporary mast. We expect an outcome for the lease agreement, by the beginning of July. Pending a positive outcome, we can start building the equipment needed and confirm an approximate on-air date for the temporary mast.

Update: 26 May 2026
Over the past few weeks, our engineers have surveys approved for the temporary mast and we are working with the site provider to agree planning permission. Once planning has been approved, we can start building the equipment needed and confirm an approximate on-air date for the temporary mast.
We will keep you updated on this post.
Update: 24 April 2026
Over the past few weeks, our engineers have been working with the power company to agree a power supply for new mast. We are working with the site provider to arrange a date to access the area to complete checks to determine the power route needed and submit these for approval. Pending approval for the power route, we can start legal steps to legally acquire the land from the site provider and start building the equipment needed for the new mast.
Our engineers have located an area to install a temporary mast and working with the site provider to complete surveys needed to make sure the area will be suitable for a temporary mast. Pending a positive outcome from the surveys, we can start building the equipment needed and confirm an approximate on-air date for the temporary mast.
We will keep you updated on this post.
We are aware of a signal issue that is affecting some of our customers in the Wigan area. Our mast in the area had to be removed from the existing site in March 2026, as the building is being redeveloped.
Our engineers began looking for a new location as soon as we were made aware our equipment had to be removed. We have located an area for the new mast and are currently working with the site provider to access the area and conduct surveys to make sure the area will be suitable for the equipment. Pending a positive outcome from the surveys, we can start legal steps to legally acquire the land from the site provider and start building the equipment needed for the new mast.
Our engineers are looking at other temporary options to restore service as quickly as possible to Wigan.
We will keep you updated on this post.

As this has been going on so long surely we should get compensation. I'm sure Ofcom would agree to that too

Hi
I’m a new EE customer who has just migrated from Three because I believe EE is a better network and I wanted to move to EE in the expectation of getting a better service.
At the time I applied, I had no idea there was an ongoing mast/network issue affecting my area. I provided my postcode as part of the application, so I feel this is something that should have been made clear to me before I entered into the contract. Had I been told that there was an ongoing network problem affecting my area, I could have made a properly informed decision about whether to switch.
I’ve now spoken directly with EE’s technical department about this. The technician agreed that the speeds I’m receiving are slow, so this isn’t simply a case of me expecting unrealistic 5G speeds.
More importantly, I’ve now found that EE itself is reporting an ongoing network problem in my area (WN67DX/Wigan). The EE status information says there is an ongoing signal problem affecting customers in Wigan, and the EE Community Support Team has explained that engineers are currently dealing with planning and lease issues relating to a permanent and temporary mast.
So there is clearly an existing network issue in the area, rather than this simply being a problem with my handset.
I’ve only just migrated from Three to EE. As a result of leaving Three early in order to move to EE, I have incurred a £104 final bill/early termination charge from Three. I will receive my final bill on 24th August
I’ve explained all of this to EE and was pointed out that I have 14 days in which to cancel. However, going back to Three isn’t as straightforward as simply cancelling EE — I’ve already incurred the £104 cost of leaving Three, and moving back would potentially involve another credit check and another new contract.
I therefore asked whether EE could offer some form of goodwill discount or account credit given the circumstances. Unfortunately, the technician declined on the basis that there hasn’t been a complete loss of service.
I understand that this isn’t technically a total loss of service, but I’m disappointed with that response. I’ve joined EE in good faith, incurred a significant cost leaving my previous provider, and have immediately encountered a network problem which EE already acknowledges in my area.
I’m not looking for something unreasonable. I’m simply asking EE to take the circumstances into account and consider an appropriate goodwill gesture, particularly given that the network issue was already known.
Had I known about the mast issue before applying, I could have made an informed decision about whether to leave Three and enter into a new contract with EE. I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect a customer to be made aware of a known, ongoing network problem in the area when they are providing their postcode and choosing whether to switch networks.
I’m happy to remain with EE if the network issue is resolved, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask EE to recognise the situation I’ve found myself in after switching.

That sounds entirely reasonable on your part, but EE seems not to understand ‘goodwill’ (though see my previous posts on this matter - some customers matter more than others). EE continue to market speed and coverage as their particular strength whilst failing to provide the local core coverage required. All services have problems - some services look after their customers when those problems occur.

Thanks for coming to the community.
If you're affected by the mast being offline and would like to discuss your options, please get in touch with our tech guides. They will be happy to help.
Thanks.
Leanne.

Hi Leanne
I’ve been on the phone to various departments and basically I’ve been told if I’m not happy go back to 3 !!!!!

That seems to be the standard response for most (but not all) customers - contempt. Despite this, EE continues to tell people to ‘get in touch for help or to complain’. Indefensible.
