Update 16 July 2026

Over the past few months, our engineers have been in legal negotiations to agree planning permission for the permanent mast. Barring any unforeseen delays, we expect the legal steps to be completed by the beginning of September. Pending a positive outcome, we can start building the equipment needed for the new mast.

For the temporary mast, we are continuing legal negotiations to agree the lease agreement with the site provider. Once we have an outcome from the lease agreement, we can start building the equipment for the temporary mast and confirm an approximate on-air date.

We will keep you updated on this post.

Update: 06 July 2026

For the temporary mast, we have experienced a slight delay completing the lease agreement for the temporary mast. Once we have an outcome from the lease agreement, we can start building the equipment for the temporary mast and confirm an approximate on-air date.

We will keep you updated on this post.

Update: 11 June 2026

Over the past few weeks, our engineers have been continuing negotiations with the site provider to agree the lease agreement for the temporary mast. We expect an outcome for the lease agreement, by the beginning of July. Pending a positive outcome, we can start building the equipment needed and confirm an approximate on-air date for the temporary mast.

We will keep you updated on this post.

Update: 26 May 2026

Over the past few weeks, our engineers have surveys approved for the temporary mast and we are working with the site provider to agree planning permission. Once planning has been approved, we can start building the equipment needed and confirm an approximate on-air date for the temporary mast.

We will keep you updated on this post.

Update: 24 April 2026

Over the past few weeks, our engineers have been working with the power company to agree a power supply for new mast. We are working with the site provider to arrange a date to access the area to complete checks to determine the power route needed and submit these for approval. Pending approval for the power route, we can start legal steps to legally acquire the land from the site provider and start building the equipment needed for the new mast.

Our engineers have located an area to install a temporary mast and working with the site provider to complete surveys needed to make sure the area will be suitable for a temporary mast. Pending a positive outcome from the surveys, we can start building the equipment needed and confirm an approximate on-air date for the temporary mast.

We will keep you updated on this post.

We are aware of a signal issue that is affecting some of our customers in the Wigan area. Our mast in the area had to be removed from the existing site in March 2026, as the building is being redeveloped.

Our engineers began looking for a new location as soon as we were made aware our equipment had to be removed. We have located an area for the new mast and are currently working with the site provider to access the area and conduct surveys to make sure the area will be suitable for the equipment. Pending a positive outcome from the surveys, we can start legal steps to legally acquire the land from the site provider and start building the equipment needed for the new mast.

Our engineers are looking at other temporary options to restore service as quickly as possible to Wigan.

We will keep you updated on this post.

Again, I saw this in a local online group:

Re the EE mast relocation

I spoke with them at length today after almost 4 months with this situation.

Extremely difficult to navigate through their customer support process but finally spoke with somebody who could explain to me what’s happening in detail.

It’s looking hopeful for a temporary mast over the next few weeks, before they find a new location for a permanent one which will take many months.

I wasn’t looking for any refund, just hope for a new temporary mast sometime soon….because I get great signal once out of Wigan …but they suggested it and transferred me to the tech dept who offered six month 50% refund 🙏🏻

Really feel for customers navigating this refund process, as it was long and complex

Why the mast removal occurred so suddenly without alternative location still mystifies me.

Clearly there is no consistency - even when I politely asked for a reduction in the cost whilst the core service was replaced I was told ‘no’ by EE.

It has been an unacceptable level of failure to provide the basic internet or network  in  Wigan,? If I’m not using broadband on my phone then I’m not getting signal enough to do what I need on my phone, this as gone on long enough, I have no choice now but to seek other providers.

Thank you for the 16/7 update. Do you agree that it is now time to look after your customers in Wigan by adopting a blanket discount scheme (backdated) for those in the affected postcodes that have been without a core service? By discounting some accounts - and not others - you are delivering a two-tier charging system.
