Coverage in South Norwood

Update: 6 March 2025

Over the past few days, our engineers have installed the transmission and integrated the mast onto the network. The mast is now on-air, restoring full service to the South Norwood area.

We will continue to monitor performance in the area.

Update: 28 February 2025

Over the past few weeks, our engineers have accessed the area and completed building the equipment needed for the new mast and are waiting for the transmission to be installed. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect the transmission to be installed and the mast to be on-air by the middle of March.

We will keep you updated on this post.

We are aware of a signal issue that is affecting some of our customers in the South Norwood area. Our mast in the area had to be removed from the existing site during January 2025, as this was requested by the landowner. Our engineers began looking for a new location as soon as we were made aware our equipment had to be removed.

Our engineers have completed surveys and designs at one location, and found the area will be suitable for the equipment. We are currently working with the landowner to access the area and start building the equipment needed for the new mast. Pending a positive outcome from the negations, we can start building the equipment and confirm an approximate on-air date for the new mast.

We will keep you updated on this post.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused. In the meantime, you may be able to use WiFi Calling to make and receive calls and texts over a WiFi connection.

Like you I am appalled with the lack of information and it is clear EE couldn’t give a damn about the customers like us affected by this. I managed to get £135.50 taken off my bill this month for my iPhone and iPad Pro which are all but useless now in Norwood. I am going to leave EE as well as they are in breach of contract by not providing the service we pay for. Our only obligation is to ensure our bill is paid on time and in full. Other than that the onus is on EE, so I will be looking to leave ASAP.

When I first noticed the degraded service they told me that there was a fault with the mast that has been decommissioned, I was then told the decision has been made to switch it off until it can be repaired. I questioned why that decision had been made as that would mean the service would be degraded even further. The truth was they knew all along it had been taken off line permanently, so why lie to customers.

I have (what seems to be) good news. Whilst taking a walk today I discovered that a temporary mast has been erected at the corner of Avenue Road and Warminster Road. The operatives confirmed that it is an EE mast, but were unable to give any indication of when it will be commissioned. I expect that EE were planning to get around to updating this post eventually - or maybe not.

Wow. So we don't even have permissions yet. I hope planning is well under way.

Can we ask who the landowner was who suddenly needed it removed please? I understand it's the mast on the old bridge nr Sunnybank very close to me. Which I assume is why my connection is so bad.

I think the land owner was Croydon Council and it was a block of flats that was on itv news because it was full of mold Croydon Council decided to demolish the block of flats so the network mast can't remain if the whole flats are going to get demolished and I think the network masts was somewhere on top of one of the buildings it's not EE fault it's out of there control I just hope the mobile networks can find a solution that doesn't leave the area with poor or no signal it's affecting voice calls and I also have WiFi calling on its not helping at times I completely lose the whole of my network signal bars to none
