APN stopped working 18th January

I have an EE data only SIM in an Elvaco CMe2100.  It has always worked fine for years on APN general.t-mobile.uk but has now stopped working (it last worked on 18th Jan),  some kind of network or APN problem, no GPRS traffic works, not even timesync.  It is presently connecting to cell 742.  Has the APN general.t-mobile.uk been replaced with something else I should use or is there a network issue with this mast?

Hello @Adi24 ,

Welcome to the community,

You can check here to see if there is a problem :

https://coverage.ee.co.uk/coverage/ee

You can also register, report and receive notifications when you have registered, as we would not know whether there is a problem, where you are.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

Hello,

There are no problems with the network in my area, my other phones work fine.  Could you let me know if the APN URL in the original post is still active or has it been discontinued?  Should I try something else?

Thanks.

@Adi24 , no, unfortunately not, as this here is not customer service, so would not know, I am a customer like you and most people here. You could always ring customer service and ask them, they may be able to help.

Ive just checked the TM Profile and it still works.

You could try using APN "everywhere" instead.

What Data Plan are you on?, is it an older EE 3G Only replacement Plan or Orange or T Mobile.

Thank you for your reply. My plan is a PAYG plan with data added. The device is a 2G GPRS only device.

I’ve tried both the original APN and now the everywhere APN (with eesecure secure username and password). Neither work so I think that must mean it is a mast issue where the 4G network is being maintained but the 2G has gone down and it has not been noticed/not a priority. I’ve reported to EE network.

Thanks,
Adi

2G service is still being actively maintained, it's needed for CSFB on non-VoLTE devices.

742 isn't a valid eNB-ID, how are you identifying that?

I have 2 totally different devices on EE 2G and they went off early January, too. EE said they had made no changes to GPRS via 2G. Yesterday they both came back on line with GPRS data, whereas I was having to communicate with them by text. Check if it's magically come to life again, good luck.I updated one device to a 4G one and that worked when the 2G ones were not able to send GPRS data...

I spoke with EE technical today who were very helpful in that they engaged with the issue, looked into it and came back, but sadly the news was that they are not maintaining 2G for data purposes any longer (only for emergency call purposes) so it will be at best sporadic, more likely won't come on at all anymore.  I hope it will come back as it has for you Basil21 but I'm not hopeful and will endeavour to source a 4G replacement for the device (which monitors a meter).

In answer to bristolian's earlier question, the device in which the sim card is placed is still able to communicate with me via SMS (that part of the 2G network still running) and it can tell me to which cell tower it is connected.

Thanks Adi24, I feared it may be a temporary respite, I will update both devices to 4G I think, so I am not left wondering if they'll go offline again.
