Youtube data usage

I have been notified by EE that I have used 8GB of my monthly data allowance only 6 days into my data cycle. My allowance is 10GB a month.

I checked my app usage in settings and found that the highest user was only around 800MB. In total the app usage to date this cycle is around 1GB according to my phone record.

I rang 150 who told me that according to their records the biggest user this monthly cycle is Youtube with a whopping 7GB in the last 6 days! I rarely watch Youtube on my phone and certainly do not recall doing so over the past 6 days.  According to my app usage information I have used 1MB on Youtube and 97KB on  Youtube Music over the past 6 days, both piffling amounts.

EE could not explain why there is this discrepancy between my phone record and their record of my data usage. Clearly there is something fundamentally wrong here.

I would be grateful if anyone has any views on how this issue can be remedied,

Hi @Smvs

I recommend checking the mobile data usage in the settings of the iPad. It should show you how much mobile data each app has used since it was last reset. If you scroll down, right to the bottom of the mobile data section, you can reset the statistics so that you can monitor it going forward.

Hello

I have the same issue I ran out of data while abroad which never happens. I usually only use about half of my data each month. I have been in contact with EE today and they state that most of my data is being used on Youtube. I don't have the App and rarely look at anything on Youtube. In the last 7 days I haven't had any data -  the customer services gave me a free data boost to tide me over until my data refreshes and also ordered me a new SIM card as mine is a few years old (I am SIM only). They said they had not encountered this issue before and couldn't explain it despite them and me searching google to try and work it out.

Clearly there is an issue here that needs a technical expert to solve..... I am going to call EE again in a week or so to check the breakdown of data usage in particular YouTube ....

I would ask for unlimited data (at no extra charge) and be done with it. EE
are clearly unable (or unwilling) to spend the time and money getting to
the bottom of this phantom data use on Youtube. Hope you get it sorted. As
you say, a simple search online shows that it appears to be a not uncommon
issue.
