I have moved to Cambridgeshire and EE is pretty poor around here. Data is very slow and will drop out for periods of time (connected but not doing anythjng).
I'm wondering if upgrading from essentials to all rounder, to get the 'network boost', will make any real world difference...
Has anyone any experience of upgrading and using this feature? Did it make a difference?
Cheers

What is your indicated coverage like? Many users mistakenly think that onscreen bars are the be-all-and-end-all.
There's two sides to good mobile service - onscreen bars are a measurement of received signal quality, data speeds are dictated by available capacity & usage.

I've had data stop working for 30 seconds or so with -95dbm.
So I suspect it is a capacity issue, either RF or backhaul.
Doesn't the "bars" indicator come on a separate frequency anyway?

No, the onscreen bars are a measure of the quality of the received signal - they're a combination of RSRP, RSRQ & SINR measurements.
Lack of spectrum on your serving site would tend to exhibit as generally slower speeds - stopping working for short times could indicate other issues.

Thanks, that pretty much sums up what I am experiencing.
Occasional very high latency or data stopping to work for 30 seconds or so (which still showing reasonable signal).
So back to the original question, I wonder if the "network boost" will help me. I don't mind paying if it works but I can't help think it won't make any real world difference (and it would be an expensive experiment)!

Hi @Roodles
The answer is no if 5G SA is not available in your area. Then again it depends on the local network hardware.
Thanks

Thanks
Ok so are we saying that ignoring 5G SA, "network boost" is a marketing gimmick which won't help me with dropouts on congested 4G?

5G-SA/NSA is a separate issue to the QoS-based "network boost" that is sold with some high-end plans.
Local traffic loadings are the pertinent issue for that - whether on 4G or 5G.

Thanks, yep totally get that.
I'm not even using a 5G device. I'm just trying to work out if it is worth the upgrade to get network boost, to reduce or eliminate drops and huge latency at peak times.

One final call if anyone has used "network boost" and if it made any difference in congested areas 🙂
Ideally I'm looking for someone who upgraded and noticed an improvement!
