Do EE offer or plan to offer a similar smartphone direct to satellite data service similar to O2 satellite ?

@Colinday25

  •   Automatic activation: The service kicks in automatically outdoors when your phone shows "no service".
  • No extra hardware: You do not need a satellite dish, extra hardware, or special apps; it works directly with compatible mobile devices.
  • Supported uses: Delivers messaging and data for selected apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, Google Maps, and weather updates.
  • Limitations: Standard voice calls and emergency calls are not supported, meaning it cannot be used as an emergency lifeline.

If you have an iPhone 14 you do have emergency SOS that uses a satellite connection when in a no network connection area.

And no is the answer you’re after.

Thanks i don't need to know what it does or how it works i didn't ask that !

My question was simply does EE offer or plan to offer it.

All i needed was the last sentance saying "no"

Currently EE do not offer any kind of satellite direct-to-mobile service.

Unfortunately no one on this Community Forum or otherwise knows what EE plan to launch, with the exception of EE themselves, so cannot provide you an answer other than "not right now". These are sensitive commercial details, so any announcement will be through official EE channels if or when they decide to launch new offerings.

New announcements are usually made here: https://newsroom.ee.co.uk/

Hi @Colinday25

While we are in the process of launching Satellite Broadband, we don't currently offer a direct satellite-to-mobile phone service just yet.

Keep an eye on our What's new at EE page to stay informed of the latest updates, including registering for details about new devices and services coming soon.

@Colinday25  Just making you aware it doesn’t support calls or emergency calls.  It has limitations.   Sorry for going above and beyond.

I have a second sim on o2 with Satelite service enabled.
It works okay - but needs clear line of sight but can be slow to connect - as only kicks in after ‘no service’ on cellular for more than a minute.
what is frustrating is often ( EE included ) the mobile shows say. 2 bars but internet is not working ( possibly due to congestion ). In this scenario o2 does not switch to satelite so despite the service, still don’t have internet.
Meanwhile, hope this does come to EE in due cause.

I also suspect it's partly to cover up O2's lack of normal coverage in some remote areas. I've experienced it once first-hand, and heard a few anecdotal tales... of O2 users relying on satellite where other operators (usually but not always, EE) have proper 4G service.

Not saying it's always the case, but I suspect quite often - it is.
