Data usage double what I'm using

Hi

The data usage on My EE is showing double what I'm using on my samsung phone.

I'm using EE's recommended data usage  monitoring App 'My Data Manger' and this mornings test I only had spotify active for syncing playlists  and it used 594MB (see attached) and this was consistent with Samsung's data usage monitor.

However I checked MyEE before and after my spotify session and it showed I used 1.3GB !

This has been a constant issue this month but tech support say that can't do anything about it

What do I do next

Hi,

Following a week going round in circles trying to resolve my huge EE data usage I've tried a much simpler test

I've been testing the accuracy of MyEE data usage by downloading some reference zip files. Couldn't find any EE recommended files so used the Vodafone test files at the following page http://xcal1.vodafone.co.uk/

Here's my download results

200MB file - resulted in 600MB of EE data usage

512MB file - resulted in 1700MB of EE data usage.

THIS IS A HUGE DISCREPANCY - AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG ?

Appreciate any feedback from anyone who's also tried this test

Thanks

Hi, I've tried to get an answer  on this very simple question  via the community and social media but no luck yet. Could you please provide a response, thankyou.

"I am having some data usage problems. If I download a half gigabyte file (512MB) approx how much data usage would it consume as shown on MyEE. The file is on a trusted site"

Hi @PMEE,

If you download 512MB then it should use 512MB of your data allowance. There will be some slight discrepancy as the request to download from wherever it is you are downloading from and the website/service you are accessing to download it would also be a few MB usually.

It all depends on what type of file you are downloading and where from.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks Alex - it is a  file from a trusted test site from a trusted company.

The 0.5g file has cost me 1.5g of my EE allowance when I did a controlled test. I will be doing the same test on my wife's phone to eliminate any device problems.

Not getting anywhere with tech support

What does the data tool on your phone say? It should have an in-built tool to log data usage. A few people have been on the community recently saying they have been using more according to My EE, so maybe there is an internal issue somewhere.

Let us know the results!

Both the built in samsung android  data usage facility and the newly downloaded 'My Data Manager' app (suggested by your tech team) are consistent and show approx 550MB. I looked back and realised MyEE showed I used 1700MB !

Hi  , I've had the same excessive usage issues with apps that MyEE is showing 2 or 3 times the actual amount used reported by my phone's monitoring tools.

I decide to do a simple test and resorted to downloading a safe/trusted 512MB file taking note of the usage data before and after the download.

My phones usage tools showed about 550MB but MyEE showed I used a whopping 1700MB !!

I did the same test on my wife's phone and MyEE showed 1300MB used for download.

Fancy trying this approach ? Love to hear of other users having similar issues

Thanks
