Hello All,
Does anyone else have a Zyxel NR7101 or a FWA710 5G router that is also having issues with speeds, Specifically 5G connection and it dropping Carrier bands?
EE CA Config
Band 1 , Band 5, Band 5, Band 7, Band 7 and NR 78 NSA
If someone could reach out and help I have been working with Zyxel support for a couple of months. Looks like a firmware issue.

I've just joined ee Internet and have the extra box for when the PlayStation on. I'm finding the Internet crashes upstairs in all the bedrooms. so we do a swap play stations upstairs and it goes down again. The extra Internet boost box is suppose to boost to stop it happening. Night time is another issue. Internet goes down early hours in the morning.

Hi @Yansey69,
Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂
Do you have a fixed line or mobile broadband service with us?

Hello Steve
Just found your post - I have an NR7101 which has been rock solid for about 14 months - nearest 5G mast is some way away from us but I had 5 bars and 100Mbps+ at all times.
In the past few weeks it has started playing up (and also exhibited some strange behaviour like randomly switching off its Wifi network). It just feels like failing hardware, somehow.
Performed a couple of factory resets, updated to the latest firmware, tried some different configurations and it's now following a pretty consistent pattern: on restart it, it finds the 5G at 5 bars (-81); works fine for about 5 minutes, then starts dropping packets, then drops to LTE-A, where it seems to stay.
Did you get anywhere with Zyxel? It took me a long time to point the thing in the right direction and it's 3m up a telegraph pole (don't tell UKPN) so I was doing to just swap out the unit for a direct replacement on the existing bracket; but if there are better alternatives now I'd be interested to know. Or if EE have changed anything that's causing it, which would mean £600 down the loo.
Grateful for any further updates you have!
Cheers
Nick

Hi Nick,
This was a painful thing to try and fix and to be honest I pretty much gave up and just put up with it. I went through the whole process with Zyxel and the short story is they eventually RMA’d the NR7101 for a exact replacement and I went thought the whole process up updating the firmware etc but again this just kept dropping connection or losing bands and therefore performance was poor. I then had to send the NR7101 back to the supplier which was PAINFULL and after 3 months got a refund.
I had a purchased the Zxyel FWA710 when I sent the NR7101 back and at first this one look promised but I still have daily issues with the internet going off. I set it to reboot daily at a fixed time and after that I can get speeds of up to 400mbps download but over the course of the day it drops bands and slows down until it reboots again the next morning. The logs are extremely vague too giving you zero insight into the problem but I just grin and bear it for another 12 months until I move house then I will change to fibre to the prem.
I’m waiting in hope that there is a new firmware which I’ll cure the issue but there doesn’t seem to be anything on the horizon.
Regards
Steve
