Very poor and slow 4G uploading speed -external antenna and router-

Hi all, I am using a 4G router with an external antenna for two months now. My internet connection at home is some kind of poor, mainly the upload speed. We have VSDL and I am working for home 99% of my time. I am a graphic designer and I am dealing usually with big files so I need a good uploading speed. So, before testing other options like satelital, I am giving a try to a 4G router with an external antenna. It took me some time to find the perfect spot for the antenna but once I had it, the first month the speeds were ok but good for me, I am speaking about 30-40 Mpbs downloading speed and 4-7 Mbps uploading speed which is not amazing but it's miles better than I had before.

As I said the first month worked wonders, very stable but this second month and for almost three weeks now, the uploading speed is below 1 Mbps, usually 0.4-0.5 Mbps, horrible, very frustrating. In that time I didn't change anything on the router settings so that issue is not coming from the router. Also, when I noticed the issue, I tried changing different settings on the router but nothing happened so the uploading speed is still horrible, between 0.6-0.7 Mbps. The weird and funny thing is that the downloading speed is still good between 30-40 Mbps.

My router is a TPLINK MR6400.

Any ideas, help!! 🙂

Thank you!

Hi @Santyjazz

Welcome to the community.

Do you have any other EE Mobile products to test the speed on those? Have you checked the status of your postcode on our coverage checker to see if we're aware of any works in the area?

Chris

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for your answer and for your welcome as well :).

Well, I've checked several times for issues in the area and apparently everything is working great, no issues in terms of works of lack of coverage.

Regarding if I have other EE devices, I don't but I checked the router SIM several times with my regular iPhone and the speeds are similars to the 4G router, downloading 30-40 Mbps, uploading is in a ridiculous 0.3-0.4 Mbps... :(. This is very frustrating.

Any other ideas that what this could be? The first month worked wonders and now it's rubbish, this is killing me, why it's now that bad?

Thank you!

Hi again,

I did try again with the EE SIM from the router in another iPhone and the result is exactly the same, good downloading speed and ridiculous and bad uploading speed, between 0.3-0.4 Mbps, it sounds to me like a cap from EE but I read that the company is not doing caps but to be honest, I am out of answers here so...

Any ideas?

Thank you! 🙂

Thanks, @Santyjazz

How much data allowance do you have on your plan?

Chris

Unlimited data, no caps, it's what they say.

OK, thanks @Santyjazz

I think it will be worth having a chat with our technical support team so that they can check your account and the performance of the network in your area. Hopefully they can help you get a better connection.
Chris

We'll do, thank you Chris!
