Unlocking a 2nd hand 4g Mini Wifi device

Hi there,

I was wondering if I can unlock a 4gee mini wifi device to all networks. My mum found it in a cupboard and has no use for it, also has no other info about it with regards to existing sims/numbers etc.

I'm with another network with my current wifi device and wanted to use the sim in the ee one so I've always got one charged for out and about when I'm on the road with work.

Thanks

Scott

Thanks @Paul1simon

Have you tested your device with another SIM to check if it is already unlocked?

James

Yes - just done this with my 02 phone sim & doesn’t work - see attachedC8067126-42A6-4DB9-AED6-D162A29FF312.jpeg

Thanks for checking @Paul1simon

Please get in touch with Customer Care so a member of the team can request the unlock at their end for you.

They'll be happy to help. 🙂

Please note the link to which this takes you does not work. If appears to be defunct. If you do not have a phone number to enter it is useless. It does not work for mini wifi devices. You waste a lot of time entering the IMEI so don't bother.

EE mini wifi devices appear to be unlockable. Customer services were unable to help as well.

@Brookers55 : Mobile routers contain a SIM & therefore have a mobile no. Look at http://add-on.ee.co.uk/status from a device connected to your mobile router by WiFi to find your mobile no. at top.

Try calling CS on the Freephone no. (Opt 2) in my sig.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

I've got one of these too and an trying to use a Vodafone SIM in the device. I get an error on the IMEI input page. Any more recent help available here? I want to use an old device and repurpose it for when i go to my holiday cabin, but i dont have an EE SIM - is the only fix to sign up to EE? I thought locking devices wasnt allowed or does that only apply to mobiles?

A new update to an old thread...

I picked up an old Osprey from EE (model Y855) and successfully got an unlock code from EE using this page:

https://ee.co.uk/plans-subscriptions/mobile/settings-permissions/device-unlock

Although the confirmation email said a reply could be up to 7 days, I received the unlock code via email the next day.

They also sent this useful link with info on the Osprey:
