Should my mobile sim work in a 4g router?

Hi, should I be able to take the sim out of my phone and use it in a 4g router or does it have to to be specificity a data sim to to work in a 4g router? I ask because I am trying to do some testing of speeds but can’t seem to get it to work. Thanks

If the SIM is the right size for the 4G router, and the router is either an EE one or unlocked - your SIM will be fine.
