Replacement router for B625-261

Hello. I have mobile broadband contract with EE on a 4G sim, and the B625-261 router

There are some wifi blackspots in the house, so (rather than trying range extenders / repeaters) I am hoping just to buy a router with better coverage

Has anyone got good experience of a router that accepts an EE 4G sim? Or should I look at putting the EE router into "modem mode" (is that even possible?) and thereby be free to use any router?

Appreciate any pointers here...

Hi @colcc

Welcome to the community.

Have you spoken to our technical support team? They may be able to offer some advice on this.
Chris

Thanks Chris. I haven't yet, because I am looking for advice based on practical experience of non-EE routers, which I expect the tech support team wouldn't provide?

Possibly not, @colcc. I'm sure someone will be along soon who can offer a recommendation.

Resurrecting this as I still have no solution... has anyone either:

(1) replaced the B625-261 with a third party 4G router; OR

(2) used the B625-261 in "modem only" mode, and used a third party wifi router?

Thank you!

Good afternoon @colcc.

Thanks for getting back in touch, and I'm disappointed to hear you've not found a solution for this just yet.

You're more than welcome to pop your SIM in an alternative router, provided you keep paying your regular monthly payments.

We wouldn't be able to recommend any specific models, but provided it was unlocked you should be good to go.

I've also managed to find a thread here on the Community about this router that mentions being able to successfully use it in modem mode, so this could definitely be worth a shot too.

That router was, I believe, sold by EE as the 4GEE Home Router. Have you considered either the EE Smart 4G or 5G Hub but they have only 2 Ethernet LAN ports, not 4.
