I recently bought the 5GB pack for £10. EE has generously boosted this to 20GB for free. I bought this specifically to test broadband speeds in a neighbouring area where EE advertises a 5G service. As this pack is significantly cheaper than the monthly PAYG Sims advertised on the EE website I asked the sim vendor if the sim is 5G ready. They said yes. I spent the £10, activated the sim and travelled to within a few metres of the EE bts in the advertised 5G location. I have a 5G device and the signal it received from the bts was 4G (I can even receive 4G+ from other more distant EE bts locations in which a 5G service isn't advertised). I checked the EE network status in the area and there were no reported problems.
I'm conducting more tests tomorrow in other areas EE advertises as 5G. In the meantime I'd be grateful if forum members who have purchased these sims could let me know if they can access EE's 5G network using these cheaper "pack" sims and the data download speeds they've received, thanks

Depending on your current Plan, if your on a PAYGO Plan there are no current 5G Service on these Plans.
If you are on a Pay Monthly Plan (Contract) then the Data Add On will only support which Plan you are on..

The PAYG plans here https://shop.ee.co.uk/sim-only advertise both 4G and 5G. It isn't clear however which of these plans support 5G. There is no mention of network if you select "more details". I bought a 5GB "pack" which isn't on the EE website.

Hi @Biglebowski,
The plans you linked to are pay monthly, rather than pay as you go.
You can view the pay as you go offers here.
Hope this helps. 🙂

Thanks James, I was confusing pay monthly and PAYG. I appear to have been mis-sold a 4G PAYG multi sim as 5G. Could you identify clearly please which of the pay monthly plans support 5G and the typical and maximum speeds available with the most expensive 'unlimited, our best speeds, no max Mbps" option on 5G? Thanks

Hi @Biglebowski,
All of our pay monthly plans are 5G ready.
You can expect average 5G speeds of over 100Mbps. Some of our customers have seen speeds up to 1.8Gbps.

Thanks James.
Can I upgrade my PAYG £10 5GB 4G sim to a 5G unlimited best speeds no max Mbps sim for 1 month at £38? Could you confirm please none of your PAYG "pack' sims are 5G enabled? Thanks

Hi @Biglebowski,
Yes, 5G isn't available with pay as you plans at the moment.
Please see Switch to a monthly plan for help with upgrading.

Thanks James,
Could you suggest to your marketing team please they make this clear on your website, and make your third-party vendors fully aware? The lack of 5G access should in addition be printed on the packaging of the PAYG sims and in your T's and C's. Customers can then decide if they want to purchase a pack having spent only a minimal amount getting the sim. My vendor has refunded the purchase cost, although I'm stuck with 20GB data credit on the sim. I texted switch to 150 as suggested no upgrade options were provided. Is there any other way I can test maximum unlimited best 5G network speeds without spending £38 on a monthly sim please? I'm thinking of swapping to 5G mobile broadband with EE. Thanks

Thanks for your feedback @Biglebowski, I'll pass it on for you now.
If you just need to test speeds, you get a 14 day return period on any online or telesales purchase. This should allow you plenty of time to check if the service is suitable for your needs.
As you purchased your SIM from a third party, you may need to register your details with Customer Care before you can use the switch service.
Hope this helps.
