5G Outdoor Antenna Pre Sales Help

Hey

Next week im looking at buying a 5G broadband device from EE, I dont really want their router and would rather just use my own equipment. It appears that all i need is the business outdoor antenna which they will sell me but i would like to know how its then presented to the network.
I currently have terrible fibre connection thats not getting any better, i have aphone line which i present to a draytek 130 in bridge mode which in turn outputs to my ASUS router.
I'd like to essentially just replace the BT line and present the 5G either to the draytek or the ASUS directly

Can anyone help & let me know how this antenna is presented to the network.

Cheers

Hi @Mav359.

What do you mean presented to the network?

Our Tech Gurus are the team that organise the installation of the antenna so they may be able to offer you more detail on this.

If you're talking about the 5GEE Outdoor Router you may want to do a bit more research before ordering the Device as it was a bit of a flash in the pan so to speak and I not sure EE still offer this Router.

Originally it was offered to BT Business Customers, then Re Badged and offered the EE Business Customers.

If it's the Device I am thinking of, it a 2 Device package, the (wrongly) called Antenna is an Outdoor 5G Modem, ie. the Antennas and 5G Router Modem are built into the Outdoor Device, the Second Device is an Indoor Router (Network Switch and WiFi) which also feeds the Outdoor Device via Ethernet Cable and POE, so hence no Antenna Cables to Install.

If I can find the original BT or EE Link to it, I will try and post up any info.

so as i understand it the outdoor antenna is bolted to the outside of the house and a CAT6 comes inside through the wall with a female RJ45 port on the end which patches into and out of a POE adapter.

From what i can see in the single video i found you there you then take an CAT6 and would plug that into the internet port of the EE white router and there you go

What i'm looking to find out is the connection to the internet like a phone line and self contained within the outdoor antenna up to that RJ45 port on the POE output adapter, can i plug in ANY router to that POE splitter or is their Router required

When i talk about presentaion to the network i mean the final point ionside the building... with a regular broadband connection its a phone box in the house you plug in a splitter and connect that to the router, with cable its a cable inside to a modem which then presents to a router

With this is it just the Outdoor Atenna (which looks like it takes a SIM and a CAT6 POE into the house, into a POE adapter and thats everything you NEED, theres internet there and then i can simply patch that into my existing router rather then use theres
This is the video i watched

Alternativley if i HAVE to use their router can it be placed into bridge mode?

Whilst I've tested and Installed quiet a few Outdoor LTE/5G Routers I've never seen or played with the BT/EE version.

Most Outdoor LTE or 5G Routers are a Stand Alone Devices, they a 'All in One' Router that provide the same features, if not more, over a Indoor CPE Device, they All provide an Internet over an Ethernet Cable Connection be it with the POE Supply or sometimes a second External Ethernet Port for Full Gigabit that can be Bridged to another Router or Network Hub / Switch, again most provide a WiFi Connection, sometimes purely for remote Admin Access withbout Internet or alternatively a Full 2.4 and 5Ghz WiFi Internet Access from the Router, sounds strange but your be supprised how well an Outdoor WiFi AP works outside the Premises near a window comparred to WiFi Router thrown in a corner of a Room.

Technicaly the BT/EE Outdoor Device in question should be of simular to the above Specs as its a Rebadged OEM Supplier (possibly ZTE / Zyxel) meaning that you should be able to set up a Repeat or Bridge Mode to your own Network environment as the EE supplied Indoor Router supplied with the setup is just a standard Router, but don't quote me on this as Mobile Networks do have a habit of locking down the Firmware for various reasons, although less so on a Business Device compared to a Comsumer Device.

Is there anyway that EE can provide you with a User Manual prior to a Sales or Contract Commitment.

I understand your local Broadband low spec issues, bur can I ask the Question who and why has someone pointed you in the direction of the EE Outdoor Router?, its not a cheap option and may be do-able easier with other methods within the other EE Offering or outside there scope with an EE Sim Only Contract for your needs.

Chris.

cheers thats helpful

I asked for the installation manual and tried looking online but havent found anything yet and their sales wouldnt let me speak to an engineer.

In terms of cost its actually no more expensive then what im already paying for but i will getting a LOT more for my money then i am now so the decision is as much 'well im paying that anyway i might as well just get more for it'

They will charge me 100quid for an installtion i can do myself but i will swallow that if im getting what i want, there is also a 14day grace period for to have a play and figure it out, if its what i want but for the sake of an instruction manual i could have know in advance.
