PlayStation portal not connecting to personal hotspot

So I picked up a PlayStation portal yesterday from my local EE store. When asking about it I was told I can connect to my personal hotspot and game the night away whilst working away. So I’m currently at my hotel and this certainly is not the case.

when I connect to my hotspot my iPhone shows the 2 green links to say it’s connected, then I get an error message on the portal saying can’t connect to the internet.

I’ve done some research and this seems to be a big issue with EE’s NAT type. Has anyone found a way around this yet?

I’ve tried it with ‘maximise compatibility’ on and off, and with a VPN and some posts were suggesting online. I’ve also tried the whole downloading a profile as someone linked to on previous posts but it seems that’s not an option anymore (note I’m on the newest IOS)

seems a bit pointless me having the thing to be fair as I brought it purely to use when working away to save me bringing my PlayStation with me (that does connect to my hotspot with no issues)

thanks in advance for any help.

I've got the same problem. I used to take my PS5 with me in the truck, but it was a hassle, so I decided to grab the Portal from EE. The only place I can play it is indoors.

They need to change their NAT type. Otherwise, what's the point of being with them when Vodafone has similar coverage and speeds, but you can actually game with them?

I've been a long-time EE customer, but it looks like that will be coming to an end.

Yeah seems a bit silly doesn’t it. Network selling you a product you can’t use on their network. Where’s the sense in that? I only got it as the guy in store told me I can hotspot my phone and used it. Seems he was only after the commission

Vodafone also uses NAT type 3, just like EE - You won't be able to use the PS Portal with them unfortunately. I've just figured that out myself and to see if any other Network providers offer NAT type 2 - Thus far, it's not seeming likely that a UK provider offers this kind of service.
