I’ve just purchased a PS Portal thinking o had a great setup at home, that it would be good to take that on the road. I have an All Rounder plan for my iPhone, and I’m on the 900mb full fibre at home, streaming on the best network for gaming therefore should be perfect. But not so.
in the house, connected to the same WiFi as my ps5, the portal works perfectly. Away from home on the phones hotspot, it simply won’t connect in. However it also would t connect via my friends iPhone hotspot, who is on O2. Which made me then think that problem was definitely home network side… as he’s able connect to his portal away from home on O2.
Ive spent the last few days trawling through the same problems that people have posted to this forum, whereby they all have same issue with the EE network leading to NAT3 delated issues. I’ve tried downloading the EE apn profile that someone recommended, I’ve opened up every single port recommended through the ee provided smart hub, SH31B, yet port checkers are saying that the ports are still closed. I’ve noticed that on the tech log for the smart hub that the last time the firmware was checked / updated is NA, and that the firmware is currently r2.72.3-R-1302579-PROD-83002 - but I don’t know if that’s a problem, or if that is indeed the latest version.
Im at the point of obtaining a new generic router, something like a AX53, as for some reason I think I would be able to better open ports from a non-isp router.
Am I stupid to think this may solve my problems? Or is there something I haven’t tried that will definitely sort it?
Thanks for any help

Hi @heppell2k5
Have you tried connecting via VPN.
Have you tried connecting when connected to another WiFi network (not your home network)
Thanks

On an iPhone it's difficult because you're unable to edit the APN Profile which defaults to IPv4v6 on EE's mobile network.
If this was set to IPv4 Only then it may work, but thats a setting that can only really be accessed on Android devices.
Using a VPN may allow it to work, as suggested by @Northerner. Some of these services may be running free trials etc so you can try them out.

Thanks both for the replies. I think the profile I saw someone link to in one of these threads solved the ipv4 issue… albeit not able to prove as didn’t work. I’ve not tried it through someone else’s WiFi yet, so that’s an excuse to take it along to the in-laws tomorrow 🙂
I have Nord VPN, are you both suggesting trying to apply the vpn to the phone and then hot spotting? Or is it possible to apply the vpn directly to my smart hub? (I’ve never quite got round the use of them tbh, as always seemed to throttle network speeds)

The Smart Hub is unlikely to be your issue, it'll be on the EE Mobile network side with the IP Type.
This is backed up by the fact that it worked on your friend's hotspot from a different provider but wont work on your EE mobile connection.
You could try a VPN on the phone and then hotspotting the connection, although I believe IOS may not allow the hotspotted devices to use the VPN connection and route them separately.
If you have access to a VPN, give it a try.

Apologies, re-read what I put… fat finger typing 🙂
it wouldn’t connect through my friends iPhone on O2. But he’s able to do so with his own portal

I’ve tried the nord vpn on the phone, and then connecting to the hotspot. Makes no difference.
I've also just tried connecting via my brothers home broadband, and still no joy. That is what makes me think the problem in setup is at the home end first and foremost
