Information for gamers ( High Ping)

Dasakira1

I’m currently with EE on their part-fiber broadband, and I wanted to make other gamers aware of an ongoing issue I’ve been having with latency (ping) rather than speed.

On paper, my connection looks fine. I consistently get my guaranteed download and upload speeds, so EE are technically fulfilling the contract. However, ping stability is a major problem. At certain times of the day my ping jumps from a normal ~20ms to 300ms+, which makes online gaming completely unplayable. When it happens, the lag is so bad it genuinely forces you to turn the computer off out of frustration.

I initially contacted EE support and was temporarily moved onto a private server, which instantly fixed the issue. That remained fine until an engineer visit was arranged. When the engineer came out, they found a corroded joint and fixed it. After that, everything seemed okay for a while.

Unfortunately, the high ping has recently returned, and once again gaming is unplayable during peak periods.

Welcome to the Community, @Dasakira1.

I'm glad to hear that these issues were temporarily resolved for you, but as a gamer myself I appreciate this must be massively frustrating.

Have you tried running another line check since experiencing these recent issues, or tried speaking with our team again?

Also is it a wired connection to your console / PC that you're using here, or is it WiFi?

Just posted about the same issue, mine is purely a latency problem, consistently jittering 4-5 times a game up to 250ms+. Download + upload is fine and seems stable, but sadly latency variation makes it really frustrating to play a game.

Not knowing where you are in the uk but have you tried setting your DNS manually .  primary DNS  1.1.1.1 and secondary DNS  8.8.8.8   try  setting a port forwarding rule in your router it’s the same port for start and end. (3074)
