The SMS standard allows for upto 160 characters in a single text message. Modern smartphones allow messages of much longer to be written and sent as one.
Those messages will be broken up by your phone and submitted to the network as individual chunks of 160characters, reassembled by the destination phone into a single message.
That each of your messages has been charged twice, suggests there were between 161 & 320 characters in said messages.
