Any plans to make this Community more like the BT TV one?

I find the UI here hateful.

Are there any plans to make it more like the BT Community?

Both are Khoros, so the underpinnings should be the same, despite its chameleon-like ability to appear very differently depending how the skinning is done.

Good to hear you found the 'Jump to first unread post in a topic' setting @Midnight_Voice

Indeed I did, thanks to some indirect guidance from @XRaySpeX, and it works perfectly in the BT Community.

But it doesn’t work here, in the EE Community, on the same iPad running the same Safari as I use in the BT Community. And it doesn’t work on Chrome on the iPad either.

To test this, pick a thread, any thread but preferably a multi-page one, read right through it, and then go back and pick a posting several pages in, and mark it Unread in the option in the chevron-in-a-circle top right on the posting.

You will be taken back to the List display and told your action succeeded.

Then select the thread again, which should jump you to the posting you marked as Unread.

But it won’t, it will just take you to the first posting in the thread, which your actions above should have marked as Read. (And you can tell that indeed happened, as the thread will not be emboldened in the List view, as per the issue I reported above).

And even if it should always show the first posting anyway, the one below it is the second posting in the thread, and not the one you tried to jump to.

To allay any doubts about the recipe (it’s been suggested to me that marking a posting unread makes it behave differently from having an unread one there naturally, though I am sceptical of this) yes, it is repeatable with a ‘naturally’ unread one, if you can find this situation, rather than contrive it.

And to allay any doubts about my settings, here are a couple of screenshots attesting to me having Jump to first unread enabled, and confirming that I am using Linear display.

Happy to be told it’s just me, but that will require someone to repeat the above recipe and get the correct result, instead of what I see. Then all we have to do is figure out why it doesn’t work for me 😛

Ok @Midnight_Voice - We'll see if we can replicate this behaviour on iPad and raise as a bug.

Thanks @NickBS

When you have it working on the iPad, best look at it on Windows, where on this Windows 10 laptop, it doesn't work on Firefox, and nor does it work on Edge.

So not just an iPad issue 😢

Hey @Midnight_Voice,

Just wanted to let you know we've got Khoros taking a look at this now.

They've suggested in the meantime you could try this link that shows all new unread topics and ones that have unread replies - https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/forums/unreadpostspage.

James

@James_B

Thanks - this is the unread boldening I guess?

At present, I’m using a link like the one that Khoros suggest, but more focussed on the particular area of the Community I mostly look at, Home Services/TV:-

https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/forums/unreadpostspage/board-id/TV/tab/thread

which I find as the View All here:-

IMG_1466.jpeg
and which gives me the view I want of the main Home Services/TV area to ensure I don’t miss anything I might want to read there while the emboldening isn’t working properly.

So, good suggestion from Khoros.

Any mileage in you or them looking at the BT Community, also Khoros, where both the emboldening and Jump to first unread work properly?

@NickBS

Just to report that ‘Jump to first Unread’ now seems to be working for me.

So either somebody has fixed something, for which thanks, or the feature doesn’t apply retrospectively.

But I doubt it’s the latter.

Is this the place for suggestions? If so, is there a chance that the page selection (as found at the bottom of this page) can also be displayed at the top of a multi-page thread (or under the opening Post) as I find myself visiting a post multiple times and having to scroll all the way down (which, isnt far to be fair) to change to the page containing the latest post.

Failing that, is there an option from the main forum display to jump to a certain page directly, Maybe in the highlighted area below or similar have a "Jump to Page 1...2...3...4" dialogue , just so I can navigate to certain page quickly?

@killyouridols08 : Good idea! Would save a bit of scrolling.

If you go to page 1 of a forum's Topic list & you want to go straight to page 5, you can paste "/page/5" to the end of the URL in the Address Bar e.g.:

From: https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/bd-p/broadband

To: https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/bd-p/broadband/page/5

@XRaySpeXYeah, I've been Navigating via the address bar, but I find it bemusing that there isn't an easier way to navigate a forum with over 1.2 Million Posts

@killyouridols08

Once I’ve scrolled down a post or two, there’s a floating ‘Back to top’ I can tap to go back to the first post on the page.

If there were a ‘Down to bottom’ link that went the other way, this would at least be quicker to get the page display.

Not as good as having the page display at the top as well, but might be easier to implement?
