Why have I got charges on my account for picture messages as haven't sent any

Have you sent any texts containing emojis? They convert to MMS aka Picture Msgs and charged accordingly.

Are you using Apple or Android?

The former tends to convert special characters into MMS, Android can be configured to largely prevent it.
