Why Roaming Charges when others don't?

Why must I now pay £2 a day when I visit Europe with EE? 1pmobile, which piggybacks on EE, doesn't charge any extra. To add insult to injury, 1pmobile costs half the price of EE.

All the main networks except for O2 are now charging. O2 are now making a big push to get new customers over it. be interesting to see if it works and if they keep it free once they have gained customers over it. You can't really compare EE to an MVNO.

We were told this was a good thing, people who didn't need roaming wouldn't have to pay for something they didn't need. Prices of course just went up anyway.

That said, I think the EE roam abroad pass is one of the best out there out of the big 3. £10 a month and includes places like the USA. On Vodafone you have to pay £6 a day for that.

Yes free is better, but when you factor in the cost of your holiday, the roaming fees is a very small part.

We left the EU, we are now getting the benefits.

That's comparing apples with oranges. 1pmobile is solely PAYG. EE make no extra charge on PAYG to use your UK allowances in the EU. The £2 a day is only on contract.

@charliemoss  Just to add your not roaming on EE when abroad with 1p.  And as @XRaySpeX  has put your not charged to use EE PAYG when abroad just like 1p

So PAYG doesn't pay either with EE. I was not aware of that. Also, I didn't know there was a monthly charge of £10 possible.

However, I do not comprehend why contract should pay more that PAYG.

The need for add-ons or paying a £2/day charge in the EU is only for contracts. It does not apply to PAYG. As yet EE haven't introduced any charges for PAYG users to use their UK allowances in the EU. EE has not yet announced if & when they may start. So you may continue to use your pack allowances in EU as before w/out charge.

Contracts get more benefits & options than PAYG & for continual usage will often work out cheaper than PAYG.
