Why do EE not show the VAT breakdown on their personal accounts? I charge some of my bills to my business and need a VAT receipt to do that. Why is EE exempt from showing their VAT details on their bills.... I wish I could do the same?
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Thanks @EssexBoyEE. I sometimes assume this is the case when I'm missing a VAT invoice, but, in any case I think it's unfair that the
Vat Man may give you grief
due to EE being unhelpful, and - at least on the face of it - breaking the law.

@TomDu it’s not breaking the law at all. Vat is on the bill it’s just not a broken down bill. There is no legal requirement to show a full vat breakdown on consumer plans as they are not intended for business purposes. Even the old billing format had at the bottom of it. “ this bill is not for vat purposes”. Or something like that.

It looks to me as if more details are required, based on the information here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/record-keeping-for-vat-notice-70021#vat-invoices
5.1 Details to include on a VAT invoice
You must show the following details on any VAT invoices you issue:
...
- for each description, the quantity of the goods or the extent of the services, and the rate of VAT and the amount payable, excluding VAT, expressed in any currency

@TomDu Now read 5.4 of that link. And what’s the issue of changing to a business tariff that gives a vat invoice? Anyone trying to claim back from the company they work for for calls on a personal tariff is between them and the company they work for.

Good afternoon
I find it very annoying that having been asked for a VAT invoice that non is supplied, 5.4 of the link quotes as follows:
5.4 VAT invoices issued by retailers
There’s no requirement to issue a VAT invoice for retail supplies to unregistered businesses. As a retailer, you may assume that no VAT invoice is required unless your customer asks for one. If you’re asked for an invoice then you have the following options.
If the charge you make for the individual supply is:
- £250 or less (including VAT), then you can issue an invoice showing your name, address and VAT registration number, the time of supply (tax point), a description which identifies the goods or services supplied, and for each VAT rate applicable, the total amount payable, including VAT shown in sterling and the VAT rate charged - exempt supplies must not be included in this type of VAT invoice
- more than £250 and you’re asked for a VAT invoice, then you must issue either a full VAT invoice or modified VAT invoice, showing VAT inclusive rather than VAT exclusive values
In other words, under the £250, you must supply an invoice with the details as indicated and over £250 a full VAT invoice.
Quoting from your site that all charges include VAT is not good enough without the breakdown and VAT rates. i.e. do charges incurred in other parts of the world include VAT?

Easy solution - Ditch EE when it comes to renewal - why have the hassle! I have been self employed and working for companies since the 1970's and all companies had to have a copy of the VAT bill when appropriate - and always had until some clever clogs has recently decided to change it - but why?
To ensure people convert to a business account that they can charge more for? !!
BT control effectively - what's changed!! Nothing! But technology hopefully will in time.

They don't show Vat and Vat number just to keep it looking "favourable" to those who aren't unregistered. But why don't they display the Vat number? Pretty sure it's the same as BT anyway, sure I've seen it somewhere.

Email me the VAT number if you've got a minute please, or confirm that it is the same as BT.
Thanks
