Upgrade

My contract is due feb 24. I was given the option to upgrade early without giving my phone back. 
When I completed my order, I received an email with the following message “As you still have time on your handset contract, your new SIM only plan will begin on 13.02.2024 after your handset contract has ended.”

What does this mean? I have not requested a sim only plan. Will I be charged for this
