Hi all,

Just want to confirm with a member of EE staff that there have been no recent changes and that incoming roaming sms are still free worldwide, and that disabling roaming data & diverting all incoming calls to voicemail will avoid any roaming charges (so long as no outgoing calls are made)

Receiving SMS texts is free worldwide.

Yes, switching Roaming Data OFF and diverting calls to VM will avoid roaming charges as long as you don't listen to them

Thanks  XRaySpeX. Would like to see from an official EE source too just in case of any future issues.

Thanks for coming back. I know your answer is correct, I'm trying to resolve a discussion with a friend who swears that incoming sms are charged so trying to gather as much evidence as I can. Unfortunately the EE roaming guide omits to mention incoming sms at all on the pay monthly guide which does not help my case. It does mention that incoming sms are free on PAYG.

Ask your friend to produce documentary evidence of incoming SMS being charged, such as a bill. Offer to accept a bill from any UK network charging for incoming SMS outwith premium-ones.

They will not be able to.

Hey @Paulg0

Thanks for coming to the community.

Receiving SMS worldwide is free, if this were to be chargeable, the charge for an incoming text when travelling would show against the Roaming Costs help page.

If you have your EE SIM in the device and are connected to an international network, your forwarded calls would be charged international rates to call another UK number. To avoid any Voicemail charges text VM OFF to 150 to turn this off prior to travelling and VM ON to turn this on when you return.

Debbie 🙂

@Debbie_G : Aren't VMs received on your no. but not listened to handled entirely within UK? So that they will not be chargeable unless you pick them up later while roaming?
