Ridiculous pricing for upgrade

I’ve just been told that upgrading to the cheapest iPhone 16 handset with 25gb of data will be £68 per month for 24 months. That’s £1682, of which includes the phone which is available to buy through EE for £800 . That leaves £882 for the airtime plan, the equivalent of £36.75 per month.

An unlimited  sim only plan is only £16 per month through my account as an existing customer so how do EE see £68 per month as any sort of ‘deal’ is beyond me.

The agents reasoning was ‘we’re the uk’s biggest network’. That may be the case, but your EE app hardly ever works, gifting data to the 2 other phones on my account is hit and miss and call quality has taken a dive recently too.

Looks like I’ll be taking all 3 plans to another provider

@Badabing500  that £16 unlimited what is the network speed you are getting for that.  10mb perhaps and not unlimited speed.

What is the name of the tariff being offered with the 16 ?    It’s not called a 25gb tariff.  It’ll have a name like “all rounder”

As for the app hardly ever working it only ever goes off-line when accounts go off-line and that’s usually from 11 at night till six in the morning because you know the app is linked to your online account.  The app isn’t a standalone app it’s linked to an account.  Just like a banking app and these go offline when banks do any accounts maintenance.

Never had any issues with data gifting when it was applicable to me, so I can not comment on that.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

£16 per month is unlimited essentials 100mbps, see below

Regarding the 25gb plan, that was essentials as well

I’ve been a customer since 2015

I can't see any previous posts from yourself querying this. Can you explain the issues you're having with calls?

Also regarding the app, it hasn’t opened on my iPhone 14 Pro for at least 12 months. I’ve spoken to their tech support, reinstalled, deleted cache, check iOS versions, everything. The online account throws up an error about not being able to calculate data usage, that’s a regular occurrence and not in those hours you mentioned. Stacks of similar issues on this forum and reviews in the App Store too

@Badabing500   But that’s an offer as you can see it does state it’s £32,
But just to query is that an upgrade or an offer for a second line ?

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

It’s offered to me at £16 as an existing customer, so why do they want to charge me twice that price when it’s taken as part of a new phone plan.

Another example below. 50gb for £18 per month. 100mbps for a new customer.

Again, much cheaper than my quote. EE tells you that you get the best deals as an existing customer, although it seems you’ll pay higher than everyone else when upgrading

That 50gb offer is also available as a sim only upgrade for me however if I want a new handset they’re offering half the data at double the price

See my calculation in the original post

Do you have EE Broadband to be getting that £16 offer? Can't see the image as it hasn't been approved yet.

If so, it would be good to call EE and see what they can do.

May be that your account isn't showing as eligible for device finance since it is only showing 24m plans, and as such you're not getting all the discounts you should be getting.

Would recommend calling them and finding out why, as well as seeing if they can do something like a credit referral process to see if they can pass you for the device finance route. There are more discounts on the airtime, a split contract and you can choose between 24 and 36 month terms.

Hi, that offer is just one example to explain my point in more detail. I have access to the plans that include handsets too but it is the structure of the offers that I have an issue with.

I had a similar gripe a few years back when I took 2 new phone plans, but that was for x2 iPhone 14 Pros which I accepted as the handset value was quite high at the time, however, this iPhone 16 offer is really poor.

I will get in touch with them though, might hold out for a black Friday deal first though so I’ve got some better comparisons to work off.

Thanks for the advice 👍🏻

Also, no broadband with EE but my average spend with them is around £150pm
