I’m moving to Australia in 3 weeks for a year, I don’t really want to have to pay for my contract whilst I’m away but I can’t afford the cancellation fee.
But I also don’t know if I can keep using the phone when I’m abroad?
can i keep the contract + sim and use it in Australia paying the contract plus roaming charges?
I also believe I seen something about not being allowed to take the phone out of the country for an extended period of time?

You may continue to use your phone in Australia at the rates set out on https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs
You could also take out the £25/month Roaming Pass, enabling use of your UK allowances in Australia, this will be subject to the Stable Links Policy which broadly requires use in the UK for 2 months in every 4.
Ultimately EE is a UK network, with roaming services intended for short-term trips abroad not long-term foreign residents.
