Hi, 

My contract ends in July and I don’t want to upgrade. I want to end the contract with EE. Do I need to do anything or will the contract just end?

Telecoms contracts in the UK - EE's are no exception - are not fixed term ones that end, they are rolling contracts with a minimum term.

Thus until you explicitly request any action, it will continue on the exact same basis. Once your minimum term has expired, you may choose to upgrade to a new phone, you may choose to go onto a SIM-only plan, or you may choose to disconnect by giving 30days notice via CS.
