EE Basics Social Tariff

Hello,

I’m currently on a SIMO contract & want to switch across to the EE Basics social tariff.  All the of the EE advisor that I’ve spoken to have said I can’t switch over despite their website stating,

Existing EE SIM only customers who qualify for EE Basics can switch across at any time for no extra charge”.

Can someone please explain why this isn’t possible when I managed to do this for another SIMO that was on the same account.

Maybe cuz you already have a SIM on EE Basics & you can't have more than 1.

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

I’ve since removed that number from my account. Apologies for not stating that in the original post.

Hi @Acd3,

Welcome to the Community!

Was the advisor able to let you know why you weren't eligible?

Rach

Hi Rach,

I’ve spoken to a few advisors and received conflicting information:

  • One said the EE Basics Social Tariff no longer exists.
  • Another said I needed to be in the upgrade window. (but that only applies to handset customers which I’m not).
  • A third told me that because I’m still in contract, I can’t downgrade to a cheaper plan.
  • And another didn’t give a reason at all, just advised that if I’m struggling to pay, I should cancel the direct debit and let the collections team get in touch.
