My contract ended about a week ago, when I go on my EE it says I can’t upgrade just yet, I think this is because for the last 4 months I have been about a week late paying my bill due to my pay dates. I have looked at the price plans for new handsets and the prices seem very high compared to other networks, so I probably won’t be upgrading anyway, but I need to stop my current contract otherwise I’m paying £50 a month for a bit of data that I use. I phoned 150 and waited on hold for 40 mins (seems to be the case since covid) only to be cut off from the operator after 3 mins. So thought I would try live chat but unfortunately also says it’s expected to be about an hour until I get a reply. I would use either the pac code or stac code to cancel but currently having difficulty getting a new contract. Is there any other way to cancel presides waiting in line for ages when I expect I will be cut off again as soon as I mention cancellation. I would have thought being a customer for more than 9 years I would have received better service. Thanks

Your reference to contract ending is, I presume, just your minimum term where your services (and associated contract) still continues on the same basis except that you're now free to give 30days notice anytime.
Requesting a PAC or STAC won't serve to cancel your contract unless you then subsequently give that code to a new provider to port (PAC) or not port (STAC) your number.
EE has never claimed to be the cheapest network, but account-specific offers can often be available via C/S on 150 - who are also the quickest way to give disconnection notice.

No, it wasn't if you haven't yet cancelled. It's merely the end of of your min. term. Your contract rolls on on a 30 day notice period until you cancel it, upgrade or port away.

And to clarify further, if your contract ends that is because EE are no longer providing you with service - the clue would be your pay-monthly phone has either moved to PAYG or will have been disconnected.
