My current airtime plan is 24 months and ends in 18 days, my device plan runs for another 12 months - can I upgrade my airtime plan?
I received the text message below from EE,
”You have a couple of options available, including staying on your current plan, changing your plan or upgrading your device once it's been paid for. “
however when I phoned to change my airtime plan (there is a better value sim only deal on EE website) EE they said I couldn’t change my airtime plan as I’m still in contract despite me making it very clear that I did not want the change to take place until the end of my current plan. They insisted that I needed to phone back in 18 days as “there will be better options available as I will be out of contract”
Has anyone else been in this situation? Am I able to change my plan now or do I have to wait? It just seems odd that I be sent a message to say I can but then the upgrade team are unable to assist.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

@minime84 Yes you can upgrade the airtime but it’ll only start once you have completed the current full term of the existing airtime contract. With 18 days to go until the minimum term there is no reason why this should have happened as per your request. Call again and hopefully you’ll get someone more knowledgeable.

On traditional (airtime & device combined) plans, you could give notice during the upgrade window (minimum-term < 30days) to change your plan, but that would only take effect from the end of minimum-term.
There may be a quirk with FlexPay, although I would call back and speak to someone else, to verify this.
