I guess I get the printer to search for wifi then press wps on router. Will try that next tho haven't got the energy or motivation at present LOL

If you're connecting to a WiFi network by name you don't use WPS. WPS is a shortcut to save searching for a network & connecting to it.

My printer had no problems connecting to BT router automatically but won't connect to ee router either automatically or entering details manually. Hence looking for alternative method.

Make sure that WPA2 or WPA3-Transition is selected for the WiFi password on the Smart Hub Plus router and not just WPA3 alone otherwise older devices will not be able to connect.

I'm in the hub manager but don't see an option to check wpa2 or 3. There is a firewall on tho, should I switch off and try printer connection again?

No. The firewall should be left alone.
The WiFi password settings are going to be under your WiFi settings.

Try switching Compatible WiFi ON.
Does the printer see the router's SSID in its list of networks seen, but it then fails to connect when you put the pwd in?
