What is the truth about wifi 7?

Hi, I'm a BT transferee to EE broadband and after much discussions with advisors finally settled on the 500mb essentials with wifi 7 smart hub pro - then the problems started. On go-live date no additional equipment arrived (although I did receive the bags to return my BT extender disks). Rang EE to find out that that no equipment had been ordered and there was an error on my account but told they would call me back. 5 hours later, and no call back , I was finally told the issue was that you cannot get wifi7 with 500mb package so I would have to make do with the smart wifi extenders. After further research myself it appears this is not the case and I have been given further wrong info. What is the truth as I am getting close to cancelling and taking my business to sky...it was never this difficult working with BT.

@Davidh19   seems crazy, I understand you already have extenders that work with your BT Hub!

You could just ask to keep then, and return whatever they send you. You know they work, there is a but, and that is the app, currently if you use it you also need the MyBT ID- in the same way you will need the MyEE ID for some of the features with the EE adapters.

If you also think about the cost, £10/m for WiFi 7, or £7/m for WiFi 6 I believe. Depending on your viewpoint within 2 years getting your own mesh network might be something you would consider. I may be biased, I prefer to use my own router where I have more control over what I can do with it,  being able to split SSID's and managing what can and cannot use the newer features is getting to be more important.

In the mean time, here is the link for the extenders for each type of router.

@Davidh19   no one on here has account access, so don't know what you have or are paying.

However my understanding is that Essentials is the no frills version of any speed package.

WiFi 7 is a £10/m add on.

The BT Smart Hub 2 is more than adequate for your service.

We don't know what extenders you have, but EE ones and BT ones are different and most not compatable with the other router.

So what do you have and are you paying extra?

Hi, I was going to be paying for the 500mb essentials and then the additional £10, but the advisor apparently didn't place the order. Then I was told that I could only get wifi 7 with the 1.6gb package...not that it was only inclusive with 1.6gb...I was prepared to pay the extra tenner.

I currently have 2 BT extenders as the wifi signal does not get all round the property and was initially told that as I would still be keeping my BT smart home hub 2,  wifi 7 would be the best solution.

Strange now that it seems they are only prepared to provide the EE extenders as wifi 7 is not apparently available/compatible with a 500mb package

@Davidh19   that seems crazy, although overkill for a 500Mb , if you are happy to pay for WiFi7 I have no idea why they would not let you.

It certainly is compatible, and I am sure if you spoke to a different advisor you would get a different answer. Or you can probably order it via your MyEE account.

Thanks Mustrum...so are you saying that the smart wifi plus extenders would be sufficient to boost the signal round the house?...I know for definite that the BT Smart hub 2 needs some help to provide service everywhere

@Davidh19   The Smart WiFi plus extenders should give similar performance to the BT ones, if combined with the EE Smart Hub plus router. They will not work on your BT Smart Hub2.

@Davidh19 As you are on the EE FF 500 product, if you want/need to keep the BT then what you have will all work fine.

If you want / need new EE Router if lucky then the EE Smarthub+, then you have to get the EE Smart wireless to match with it, NO mix and match BT with EE does NOT work as @Mustrum has pointed out you also have EE with EE types that do not work with each other, you would normally get the SH32B (1) off Router and the SW30A Smart Wireless extender (1) off and to a max off three if you pay EXTRA for the addon....

If you want to have EE Smarthub Pro Wi-Fi 7 then 1 router, and 1 smart wireless to match, also this is an addon to the package and is available as EE deem on certain FF products, if they say NO then you are not getting it, can be many reasons for not getting, low supply's more of the older etc etc.

Treat the Pro/Plus/BT as all separate, no MIX/Match off any the parts, Link below shows what EE are currently doing product wise.

Thanks both, sounds like yet another call is required to EE tomorrow as it appears their advisors haven't got a notion what they are taliking about ...2 extenders on their way to work with my BT hub.

A lot of product training knowledge required before the BT transition doesn't appear to have happened

@Davidh19 Just let us know what model EE send you, will be on the box labels, there are some older EE extenders that MAY work with your BT Smarthub2 and they would be the SW10A but there was absolutely no need to swap them out from the BT Complete wifi black disk's unless they were sending you the EE SH20A router all matching EE equipment just stupid way off going about this all. No gain what so ever apart from possible new parts supplied....
